  1. Snark-Free Response Forum

I'll agree that, when I first started posting here, I was a little turned off by what I considered to be just outright hatefulness coming from a few of the posters here. For some reason, I've yet to be on the receiving end. However, I came to realize that there are only a few, and that there's...
  2. Our latest wrap on our shop truck.

    Great job! I love it.
  3. Why do people try to haggle with sign shops?

Haggling has always been and always will be a part of doing business. I do it all the time and I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I mean, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. You can't be obnoxious or a nuisance about it, but if you don't ask, you'll never get a better deal...
  4. Training in Illustrator

Oh, I absolutely agree. I'd love to go back to school for a few different things for the knowledge alone. Just not in the cards these days.
  5. Training in Illustrator

Since the advent of Google and YouTube, you can learn anything with a search. Not trying to be a smartass, either. There are free online tutorials everywhere. I know that I use them all the time for all sorts of things.
  6. What does a graphic designer do?

My life would have to be pretty horrible for me to get my jimmies rustled over someone calling themselves a "graphic designer". Boy, do I love the internets (both of them!)
  7. What does a graphic designer do?

Haha this made me chuckle! Thank you, sir.
  8. A couple of new signs to share

Wow, that is wonderful. I wish we got more jobs like this. More than that, I wish I could do that good of a job!
  9. Any ideas on how to promote my P&S business?

One thing that we do a lot of is print a "business card" decal onto a non-permanent vinyl (I like to use the last couple yards of IJ180) and put them on the doors/windows in vacant spaces at shopping centers and such. Seems like there's always someone moving into a new location and saying, "hey...
  10. New to Sign Industry - Need Advice

It isn't rare for me to have to remind the folks in our graphics department that they can be artists on their own time, because they often drag their feet on getting layouts and file prep done. But I also understand what it means to be proud of your work and present an attractive product. It's...
  11. New to Sign Industry - Need Advice

I say screw any negativity you might hear from these forums and dive right in. It's your money. Your dreams. As long as you're making the most informed decision you can make, then you should go for it. If it were me, I'd go for the family business. Then again, I'm not one to be bound by any...
  12. Flat "Metro" Design

    Thank you for compiling these!
  13. need opinions

There may or may not be a better way to do this, but typically, we simply route our push-through letters with a flange and mount them with silicone.
  14. Good vinyl for printing translucent?

    Good insight! Thank you!
  15. Good vinyl for printing translucent?

We currently use 3850 exclusively for all of our digital print translucent, but the Solvex pricing is hard to ignore. And as much of a tightwad as I am, I'm a little apprehensive to go down that road. I certainly wouldn't use it for outdoor applications. I assume you use it mostly for indoor...
  16. White Printer Vinyl Not Sticking to Aluminum Substrate

Strange... We just use denatured alcohol. I assume you're applying some good pressure to the vinyl? Maybe some post-heat would help? :/ (edited for typo due to caffeine overload)
  17. Eco-Solvent Durability For Outdoor Use

Personally, I don't put too much worry into fading when it comes to billboards and banners. They're constantly changing, and it tends to happen well before any sort of fading becomes an issue. ETA: I don't claim to be an expert. Just a tightass.
  18. So, I forgot to introduce myself

    Thank you, folks!
  19. So, I forgot to introduce myself

Greetings from Little Rock. Glad to be here, as this site is incredibly resourceful!
  20. Ranting on Foam By Design

I had a real, genuine lol at "suposto". Brilliant! I needed that to start off my morning. :D
