  1. Sources for isopropryl alcohol

We buy our from Sherwin-Williams where be buy some of our paints. I don't know if it's the best price. I don't make those decisions. We buy it in 5 gallon cans as well as Xylol and Mineral Spirits.
  2. My customers can not wrap their heads around the idea of keeping things proportionate

How many times has a customer wanted a 4' x 8' sign with only their logo on it. Their logo is a square/circle. I've had the hardest time explaining the proportion. If I say the largest I could fit their logo on a 4' x 8' would actually fit a 4' x 4' perfectly they look at me like I'm speaking...
  3. is there a decent gold leaf paint available????

I've used Modern Masters Metallic Paint with good success on exterior sandblasted signs. It is 4 years outdoors and holding up well. I wish I had pics to show. It's very bright. This is a water-based paint. I brush cleared over it with One-Shot clear...
  4. Can some one help. Memorial coin type plaque.

Maybe try GEMINI. They make plaques of cast aluminum and precision tooled. Maybe some other substrates. Not sure. You'd have to have a vector file of what you want.
  5. Shout out to Merritt

We have used them as well. Always good service, price, quality work and fast turnaround.
  6. Shop Van Wrap Critiques

I'm thinking the list of things you do behind the logo are a bit too big. When I look at it it's like there's a headlight over there competing with the main graphic. Maybe if the list was just 90% the size it is now that may help. All-in-all though it looks sweet! Great colors, good movement...
  7. Removing large vinyl from light up sign

    Whoop_there it is!
  8. How to affix a sign above an existing awning without a bucket truck?

Sounds like 2 men and 2 ladders to me. Use 2x4's in a french cleat method. Go up once to attach the top 2x4 avoiding the 4' wide awning. Go up the next time with the sign and just hang it on that top 2x4. I could draw it up if need be.
  9. Logo for Repiling Company

I don't do this often enough even though drawing was my first love. I'm so old we didn't even have ball point pens. Pencils were a new thing. Mostly used charcoal from the fireplace. :Big Laugh Now-a-days I jump to the computer first and sometimes I just can't get the creative juices flowing...
  10. Illustrator

rjs, that is a great suggestion. It's making me consider looking into it. I can always make use of being faster. Plus, there some things I want to do but am not totally sure of how to pull it off and don't have time to "google study" the process. That makes me fall back on what I already know...
  11. Illustrator

The problem I've had with software books is that I know what I want to do but don't know what to call it. More specifically is that I don't know what they call it. That makes looking things up very difficult and frustrating for me. I have my own term for it but that's something I made up in my...
  12. Illustrator

It all depends on what you started with and use often. I started in CorelDraw5. Used it for about a year and got pretty good at it. Then got Illustrator. Illustrator. It was tough going but at the time I was convinced that it was the industry standard so I was determined to learn it. I learned...
  13. Where to buy Ronan paint?

Bulletin paint and lettering enamel are not the same. Bulletin colors are for covering large background areas. The lettering enamel has more pigment in it and is thicker and seems to be mixed more smoothly than bulletin colors.
  14. It's okay to not make every change to a design that others suggest.

I'm going something similar right now with a sign for a church. Guy's wife got involved and she's focusing on a maroon color. It's the lettering and border color on a beige background as they wished. I printed a sample and they liked it but felt it should be a little "redder". Then they thought...
  15. urgent help for hp designjet 8000s

I'm probably misunderstanding you here but... If those heads are firing on a nozzle check and they are firing on the stripe then why do you think they are not firing on the print? Can you post a pic of what the print looks like?
  16. File set up instructions

I think you should do the set-up yourself. For the customer, give them instructions as to how to supply you a file you can work with.
  17. Cut Vinyl Graphics on Vehicle, little pieces coming off of edges, Anybody know why?

They appear to have contracted Papyrus disease. When I hand lettered vehicles many years ago, every once in a while I'd run across one that my paint flaked off. The problem was usually that the painter, doing a economy paint job, had problems with fish eyes so he used silicone in his paint as...
  18. Painted Billboard

    Great work and outstanding design.
  19. Please Help Part 2

I had an extra 20 min. Hope you didn't need any other letters from this style. I just did the reality sign logo.
  20. Needing input and feedback on company logo

What I'm guessing is that the connotation of "Mad" that they're aiming at is like referencing someone as having "mad skills". The challenge is how to portray that in a logo.
