Which version of Lxi are you trying to install? If it has a USB dongle, you'll need the hasp driver in order for the program to recognize the dongle. I believe you can download it from Signwarehouse's support page.

Instead of a machine shop, try taking your blanks to an HVAC shop. They'll most likely have a shear so the cuts will be better. In times of emergency I have used the a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade, but it leaves a pretty rough edge.

If I can find something else that works just the same I'd be delighted. It needs to be clear and extremely low tack. All of the other tapes we have tried come in either high or medium tack and don't release as easily as we need it to.
