  1. Oracal 651, Work as Dry Erase?

"A little secret.......Home Depot sales 4x8 sheets of ....I think its call Melamac...." You may be thinking of Masonite. That's what we use in our shop for a dry erase board. It's been working for over 3 years. It's really inexpensive. We got ours white one-side an put graph lines on it using...
  2. Recreating art from a photo ???

You could do it with either the pen tool or perhaps the AutoTrace feature. Sounds like you haven't had the best of luck with the pen tool and the AutoTrace will take some experimenting as well, especially if you're not used to it either. If you just want to get it done and can't get the...
  3. first print on banner material

On our HP8000 we raise the print head by loosening the thumb screws that secure the lever on each side of the head that raise and lower the head. Loosen the thumb screws move the levers down to raise the head (up to lower them) and tighten the thumb screws then you're all set.
  4. CG-160fx crop detect not working, gives me ERR36 MARKdetect

1.Set up your cutter acording the manual (pages 3.17 - 3.43) I am not at work right now so don't have access to my machine and don't remember all the settings as it was a long time ago I set it up. I'd have to refer to the manual to get those settings. I have looked to the manual a little here...
  5. Ice Cream Parlor Layout Critique

I love everything about it except Athens and Parlor being the same font and color. For some reason I couldn't help reading "Athens Parlor" when I first opened it. But the colors are slam dunk and appropriate. Ice Cream has just enough of the right treatment that enhances it without going...
  6. Our First Wrap - partial on an HHR

Sorry I've been so long getting back here. Thanks all for the comments and critiques both good and bad. FatBoy: To be honest, the bad ones is what I'm looking for most of all. lol I love positive feedback as it encourages me. But the critical ones are the ones that make me think and learn...
  7. Our First Wrap - partial on an HHR

BEL Signs, thanks for the link. There's a lot of good wraps there. Good inspiration too. I think I'd have gotten bored doing wraps all day as well. I like bouncing around screwing up all sorts of things on a daily basis. lol
  8. Our First Wrap - partial on an HHR

Thanks Jill I was stuck with the yellow. Your points on the fonts are well taken and now that you mention them I see it. Likely I should have run this by you guys first for a critique before following through with it. You're one of my favorite designers on here. If you did a wrap it would be...
  9. Our First Wrap - partial on an HHR

Craig, Thank you. You're comments are what I was looking for. I hate having to use area codes. That's something that back in the day we never needed to include. I haven't found nor seen a treatment for them that I really like. Probably because I resent having to include the dang things at...
  10. Plotter speed, pressure and offset question

I am using a Mimaki CG 160 FXII. I did hand lettering for years. The past 4 years though I've been working in a sign business that was primarily a vinyl shop. In the past 2 years we've added 2 HP 8000's and print a majority of our work. Regarding the plotter and vinyl cutting, could someone...
  11. Our First Wrap - partial on an HHR

I'm more than a bit excited about having finished our first wrap. Although it's only a partial I feel I got a good workout on the installation proceedure. I had some great results on difficult areas and made a few small mistakes as well. Whatever good came out of it is the result of a ton of...
  12. How to wrap HHR door handles

Here's a pic of the wrap on the handle. Not so bad once I got a little advice from here. I really don't wish to be a thread-starting machine but since this is our first wrap (partial) I'm posting pics of the job in a new thread.
  13. Police Car Design

We did ours as these pics show. Our cars are painted as Black & Whites. The Chief wanted a gradient on the "POLICE" copy. Badge is small on the front fender. They also wanted to promote the city's web address on the back. The "EMERGENCY" is vinyl while the white "911" is reflective. It's a...
  14. How to wrap HHR door handles

As WB said that's what I did. It went well after I figured out taking the handles off was the way to go. I'll post some pics here when it's all cleaned up.
  15. How to wrap HHR door handles

I got it. The handles come off really easily. Half remove one screw/bolt with either an allen wrench or a 7mm socket. Then hold the handle part-way out while pushing out on a white spring loaded lever that seems to be locking it in and simultaneously moving the handle to the left, toward the...
  16. How to wrap HHR door handles

I'm having a heck of a time approaching this partial HHR wrap because of the door handles. It is a 4 door. I'm reprinting a section for the left rear door now because I just slapped the vinyl on the whole side and struggled so much with the door handle that I got unacceptable wrinkles in it. No...
  17. What is it with laminate?

Our supplier sent us the wrong size Oracal 210 laminate. We ordered 54" and they sent 60", or 63", I forget. I never order that size. At any rate, I didn't have time to wait for an exchange so the geenious in me invented the idea of using kraft paper to keep the laminate from sticking to the...
  18. Workflow

Which is pretty :cool1: if you think it over. :thumb:
  19. Workflow

We have Flexi 7.6, Illustrator and Photoshop CS2. For vinyl jobs I design in Illustrator and cut using the FineCut plugin that came with our Mimaki plotter. For a print job, if I need an image, I edit that in Photoshop and 'place' it into Illustrator. If I need a rastor background that...

We have 2 ea. 4' x 8' tables covered in 1/4" plate glass and arranged end to end for a 4 x 16' table. I love it!
