Over what period of time does it take to build up to this level of misting? It's not unusual to see a printer look like this, but here are a few considerations:
1. Are you using high head height? This will create more overspray. Use low head height whenever possible for better print quality...
Like GTS said, yoiu need to replace the M/Y head. Magenta nozzles are the worst here and that's what's causing your magenta banding. That's an obvious issue here. There may be other issues, but till that is corrected, you can't reliably do any other troubleshooting.
Good Luck
I would at least calibrate the profile you're using before trying to do any color matching. The onboard profiler is pretty easy to use and creating your own profile would probably take a couple of hours and a few yards of vinyl. This should get you closer. Then do as dypinc says and start with...
The way those lines look uneven, I might suspect the media. Have you tried this print on another media? Try a quality media like a cast 3m or Avery product (or both). If we can rule out the media, then I would say to print some solid blocks of each primary color - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and...
As Big Easy asked, which direction is that banding? Scan axis or Vertical?
I'm not familiar with Caldera enough to go over the nuances in that software, but again, I would look at options for dithering, ink limits and drop size if they are available. Also, is Caldera sending over any printer...
I would clean off the chrome bars that the head slides back and forth on. Clean with alcohol and then put a small drop of 3 in 1 oil on the bars. These are brass bushings, so keeping the bars clean and lightly lubed is important. If this is an old plotter, they could be worn and would also...
LED Wizard was actually produced by the Neon Wizard folks, before I even heard of Principle LED. They used to support a wide variety of manufacturers. Have you contacted them to see if the pay versions offer more brands than the free version does?
I wouldn't worry too much about the bearings. I've been doing this for almost 30 years and have only had to replace the bearings on 2 plotters that I can remember. And those were due to too much pressure on the grit shaft by the belt from the motor. Someone did it by feel rather than using the...
I've never had any luck doing print cut with anything but the correct driver. You can usually fake them out if you're just cutting (ie sending data one direction only). but if you're reading registration marks, then the data flows 2 directions and things get confused. I think there are smart...
It's kind of hard to tell from a video. You may be able to tell better in person if the noise moves with the carriage or is at one end or the other.
Since you've replaced the motor recently with what you suspect is a good motor, let's ignore that for the moment. You should check everything on...
Profile creation will be dependant on the RIP. You will need the RIP to set up print settings (number of passes, dithering method, etc) your single color ink limits, linearize the channels and then limit the total ink. If the RIP doesn't have full profile creation ability (like Flexi and Onyx...
Sounds like a likely printer issue, not a profile issue. The printer needs to be fully calibrated before starting the profiling process or the profile won't be accurate. Make sure that your feed and bidirectional calibrations are spot on.
As far as profiling goes, you can try different...
It's been many years since I've worked on one, but it's not too much different from an Envision plotter as far as getting into it. You have to remove the keypad side of the plotter. Start with the backplate, then the bottom plate and then remove the keypad cover. Be careful of the cables as...
Hey Charles,
When you say rebuild, are you completely starting from scratch or are you just recalibrating the profiles (linearizing them?)
Changes in weather can necessitate recalibration, especially if your print environment is not well controlled - temperature and humidity. Also, latex...
In my experience both Flexi and Onyx are very capable at what they do. More important than than the software is learning how to use it to it's full potential. No offense to Ikarasu, but just learning on your own won't get you to that point, on either Onyx or Flexi. I have taken multiple...
This is the starting point. And if you're doing this, you likely have a spectrophotometer, in which case you can directly measure the color of the paint chip. Then your design software should let you know if that color falls within the gamut of your printer profile for the media you intend to...
Solvent inks in general are designed to print on a vinyl product. Polyester is not vinyl so, unless it's coated to specifically work with solvent inks, you'll likely have print quality issues. If you can't find a chrome meant for your ink (I think R-tape may have one), then do what ikarasu...
