Am I insane to try this?

Would have to do some testing if I raise it that high, the banner is 50', the ends would hang off the front and back...
wouldn't have to be that high, just enough to clear your board & banner lying on top, with grommets draped over and lying below....and then maybe nudge a bit to avoid any minor buckling of material.
the board can be anything thicker than the grommets, narrower than the space between them in the canvas area, and big enough to span the logos to be printed individually, would be ideal
...then just make target marks on the banner & table to slide across the openside between logo prints.

Yo to you well! Yes, new guy to this forum, but not new to printing (25+ years experience in cut sheet, and probably 15 of those doing various forms of wide format). However, the operator (who is an experienced user with his printer) clearly has concerns, so that was a suggestion on how he could address his boss. Personally, I'd probably tape down all edges and raise up the print head to ensure I clear the grommets, and just clean up the over-sprayed ink afterwards. But I'd still warn the boss that we only get one shot at this and may lose the banner - and have to re-create anyway.

Your experience or background is not in question one iota. You have no idea or clue as to what the OP's experience is and you were giving him advice based on YOUR background, which doesn't count. Try not to get your undies all bunched up, cause that'll hurt ya in a bit.

Mutoh made a printer with little channels in the platen specifically to print pre grommeted banner. You could still hear the head smacking the grommets every time it passed.
