Hi guys,
I'm new in printing and
I'm looking for a printer to do business cards/flyers etc. and I need some advice on which to choose (there are so may out there) and I'm starting to think it doesn't matter which one you get as long as the color is good and its fast. maybe Canon all-in-one color printer?
Also, I know that there are so many options for paper for business card (thickness, gloss...) so can you guys tell me where to order paper and what kind for starters?
Thank you so so much in advance!

I can't tell what it is you do, but if your in business, you should be building relationships with other local businesses. Who printed your business cards?

Well, I still don't know the best place to order paper from and what kind of printer to use in these purposes. I would buy one to do them myself.

Are you looking for a company that does printing or the actual printing equipment? Your OP is a little unclear.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I am looking for a company or website where I can order paper different thickness and some advice for a printer so I can do flyers/brochures/business cards by myself. I know that the best one for business cards is 400GSM or from 350-400gsm and the one for flyers/brochures is 130-170 GSM (thats all I know). What kind of paper do you guys use and where do you order it from? How do you put coating and finishes? Hope I'm making myself more clear

I think you need to figure out what direction you want your business to go, first. Just buying a printer to do business cards might hinder you in the long run. What all do you offer presently from your shop/dining room ??

I would like to do flyers, brochures, business cards, book, newsletters whatever can you do on a big printer. I know there are some that also cut the business cards and separate them, that is why I got confused when choosing one.

For paper - https://www.clampitt.com/
For equipment - I'm sure there are several options here on the forum

With the low cost and quick production times, outsourcing to 4Over, Zoo, or any of the other sources listed (there are MANY) in other threads. Why bother with doing it in-house?

Knows just enough to get in a lot of trouble..
I used to do all that stuff, we ordered all of our stuff from Lindenmeyr Munroe, great company great sales and support staff. Easy to order from off their website. I got out of that job just after they started selling their wide format stuff so can't attest to that quality. https://www.lindenmeyrmunroe.com/

As far as printers goes, we had a Konica Minolta factory in that shop and I hated them, their machines went down all the time for problems very similar and often, we had plenty of times where 2-3 machines out of 5 would be down. It seemed if one part went down the whole machine had to be dis-assembled to get to the part leading to hours or days where a machine would be down. Also colors would shift all the time, leading to making a new ICC profile every few days, annoying to say the least.

I usually ended up gravitating towards this old Xerox machine, if a part went down I was able to easily replace any and all parts in it, for the most part (did need a tech out by us a few times). And I made an ICC profile once, one time, and it was good ever after. I really value being able to do work myself on machines, this usually leads to less downtime and me getting to know the machine very well. Just something to keep in mind as well.

Hi everyone,
I’m new to the printing field and looking for some advice. I want to start printing flyers, brochures, and business cards, but I’m confused about which printer would be best. There are so many options that I’m not sure if brand really matters or if print quality and speed are the main things to focus on. Would an all-in-one color printer be a good option for beginners?

I’m also unsure about paper choices for business cards and flyers — things like thickness, finish, and overall quality. For someone just starting with flyer and leaflet printing, where do you usually order paper from, and what type would you recommend? I’ve seen companies like Printwell UK offering professional printing, so I’m curious what beginners should focus on first.

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

Personally, I like 4Over. They have a nice sample book they send you with the different paper and ink types. The two most popular that I order are the plain glossy and the suede. I find the pricing to be fair and I typically receive in 5 days. They have a chart with different mark-up options so you don't have to calculate it yourself. Most of my customers are small businesses so they only order 1 set of 500 or 1,000.

Sidenote: For me, it's more of a hassle to make these than a money maker. Be careful with set-up, I always charge separately. Most of mine are simply the logo (which I already have) a name, phone, website, email - quick 15 minute set-up for the guy calling me between service calls. BUT, some people really like to fiddle around and can't make up their mind. I typically include 15 minutes of set-up when I quote and tell them after that it's $80hr for design. I tell them to think about what they want on the card before sending me some random bits of info so they aren't paying for 15 emails back and forth.

Unless you have a ton of business doing Flyers brochures and business cards. It does not make any sense. in-house margins are small on offset or shot run offset digital. There are tons of gang run printers out there that can do it for a tenth of the cost that you can. Buy it from them per order and triple the cost and sell it for a handy margin. Just search wholesale printing and you should find at least 20 suppliers they can do it for you. I use https://sinalite.com/en_us a lot.

Yah, we're large/grand format printer's. That's our niche. We have over the years built great relationships with other local printers that do, do brochure, business cards, flyers etc.... they have state of the art printers for what they do... Like $1mil printers... They keep their clients happy filling their needs doing what they do, and then some, because they send those special jobs they can't do to us.
When we're asked for those smaller things we don't do, we refer them to our customers who does do business cards etc.
