HELP!! VP540 Advancing while printing like crazy!

A lot of the roland boards don't have part numbers written on them but if you compare a pic of the board to your old one if it has the same connectors and same main chips in the same positions etc... then 99% of the time will be correct. The smaller boards tend to be specific to only a few models and don't have any specific programming so even if they were taken from a different model will still work

The one I bought is for a RS-540/640, looks exactly the same and they use the same part number. Will have it tomorrow :)

The replacement Feed Motor board fixed the problem. Since the signal was a pass-thru on the board it was easy to verify. The used replacement board works and printer is back to normal. In service mode on the Feed motor aging the motor now goes forward and back like the manual says, instead of just forward. When doing the Grit Encoder test the M-ENC value still goes 0-4000-8000-12000-16000-0, and the G-ENC matches it, then says "completed". Media advances normal and all good. I want to thank all involved especially Jim, DamonCA21, and Ewan for all suggestions and advice. Hopefully it helps others in the future since most I read about had no finish to the problem. Happy printing!

I appreciate that you have also posted the behavior that occurs when running the grit encoder test. It is always helpful to know how rarely run tests act.

I thought it interesting how the tests worked since the manual was so vague. Hopefully helps others

Mine said 1 on the G-ENC value and 0 on M-ENC value at end of grit encoder test and passed so I quit when I was ahead! All is working normally.
