KNIFE FELL INTO BOTTOM OF TOOL

I have a Summa S2 T160. I was unscrewing the tool holder and the blade released itself from the holder and fell to the bottom of the nose cap.

I asked AI and it said to put a piece of sticky tape to fish out the knife, (tangental blabe). I don't want to get a tape stuck in the tool holder.

I will get a magetizing tool and place a small magnetized rod to fish it out. Has this ever happened to you and what did you do to get the knife out
of the tool head.

The idea with a sticky device is a good one.
I don't think the carbide blades are magnetic at all.
In worst case, remove the tool carriage and turn it upside down.
But be sure to put it back at the same hight it was.(mark it on the mounting plate with a scratch)
I use my height tool from Summa for that...(as certified engineer)

The blades are magnetic. I tried a vacuum with a small hose and that didn't work.
This should be designed in a way so when this happens it's not a pain to retrieve the blade. Like a hole into the platen so the blade
drops thru. I'd hate to put a sticky tape to only get that stuck in the tool holder.
Now you mentioned a height tool from Summa, would tha be the White cylindrical plastic with a drilled hole and slit?
Where could I find the information on how to remove the tool head and reset it back in place?

I finally got it out!!!! I used a small flat head screwdriver easily fit the bore and because it's a flat head screwdriver, it'll fit the taper on the blade wedging it
inplace. I cut a small piece of double sided carpet tape and wrapped the the shank and tip of the screw driver then insterted it into the hole and wedge the blade then
pulled it out effortlessly. That screw driver is staying in my box of bladed

If there is one thing I've (tried) to drill into my installers, I'll never admonish them for too many pictures.
My guess is Gary1's roots go back to being an installer with a threatening project manager.

This information is in the service manual.
The height adjust tool is part of the KIT-3037. They gave it to me, when i did the trainings in Belgium.
In my over 30 years of Summa support, i was only called once to a "fallen blade". I removed it like you did it.

there is a tool that comes with your cutter for this, it happens to us all the time.

I had this happen to me too about 6 months ago. I completely freaked out as the head of the summa is different than most cutters I have used in the past. I think I too fished it out with a magnet although I really can't remember now. In the future I will be very careful with replacing blades. The sad thing for me is that when I do replace a blade I have a hell of a time trying to look underneath to see how much is exposed as the blade holder is not removeable like a Graphtec or any other plotter I have had and as I get older even reading glasses make it hard to see unerneath. Maybe I should retire lol
