Mainboard compatibility question

To the tech gurus! I know the mainboard from the XJ series is compatible with XC series, but can the mainboard from the XC be changed to work in the XJ series? The mainboard compatibility chart states once a board has the firmware for a model loaded, it cannot have firmware from a different model installed. Do any of you tech guys have any knowledge or experience this is 100% true?

JUST A GUESS, but the firmware writes to an eprom
some types are erasable & some are WORM (write once read many)

unless someone is much better versed than i am, i would approach with caution.

Agreed! I do have a lead on an original XJ board, so I'm going to pursue that route. Definitely don't want to kill a good existing XC mainboard!
