Depends on how mechanically and electrically capable you are. You can do serious damage to your machine, if you dont understand what you are doing.

One test would be to move BOTH ribbon cables from the magenta head (obviously with power off and you grounded) and swap them with another head.

If the color band changes to the color head you swapped with, you probably have an electrical issue (cables, head control board, etc) if it stays magenta, then it is most likely the head.

If you are not that familiar with working on printers, I would have a tech do it while you watch and learn.

Thanks for the advice Randya
here is the history so far
we had a bulk ink system installed after a couple of days we had fuse errors
we bought new fuses & replaced damaged ones
we also notices problems with the epson chip on the main board ( it had a crack on it & the machine was coming up with different errors) we changed out the epson chip (not an easy thing to do) we have also replaced all the head cables
we havent changed the cables from the head board to the main board
( could this be where the problem is)
Thanks again for your help

Carefully check all the magenta cables first.
Then you can do continuity checks on the cables to the mainboard before choosing to swap them out.

i've had solid bands appear from a loos data cable. power down and reseat for sure. then do the data swap to isolate. attached is a rendering of a data swap for a jv3. this might help you in doing your data swap isolation.

Same machine, same problem!
I have problem with head 4B(black) which is constantly printing black!
I've changed short flat cables, put another print head, but the problem is still present...not all the time, from time to time!
There are two boards left to check: CR Board and Head Driver Board. Any ideas how to do it?
Do you think it's good idea to try to use one of the unused "lines" on the carriage board(please see attached picture)?

I doubt those lines are being addressed in your configuration.

I believe each one represents a head, and a color in a configuration.

Hi All
I contacted a tech like randya suggested
I ordered new heads cables dampers etc etc
he arrived today & fitted all the new parts
all new heads, I am printing 7 out of 8 colours
does anybody have any idea how to fix this problem
my tech tells me that there is a problem with the board
DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS
I was thinking of using a lump hammer

Did the tech give you any clue?
I would assume that there are fuses on the mainboard for each head, but there are also other components such as drivers, etc.

Hello mackerp76!
I think we have the same problem. It looks like Carriage Board to me, but I don't have new one to check.
Does your machine show "Error 113 Head Overheat 4" like mine?

Hi OLE
I got the chip for driving that part of the head changed
Got it working this morning
But I got another error
"startup error E7
Please check printer chip"
Does anybody know what this is
& most importantly how do I fix it

I think It has something to do with the chip for the bulk feed system
the printer will startup fine when this is connected

Sorry, dont know enough about the bulk system.
Contact whoever you bought the credits from, they should have more info.

Here is what I've found:

[E1] Printer chip is broken Install a service chip
[E2] Printer chip is broken Install a service chip
[E10] Invalid chip Install a service chip
[E32] Invalid chip operation occurred Restart machine

Other errors [E … ]

Check all chip connections
Step 1 : Remove all cartridges with smartchips
Step 2 : Check flat cables between mainboard and
cassette led interface board (CLIB)
Step 3 : Check all connections on the CLIB board
Step 4 : Check all connections on SmartChip
Management System assembly
Step 5 : Check all connections on the CLIB expander
board (Spitfire 100 only!)
Step 6 : If none of above helps, install a service chip.
