New client with a one-off project...wants to do ACH payment.

James Burke

Being a grandpa is more fun than working
I've seen it posted numerous times, but I have a new (reputable, and rather large corporation) client who wants to submit payment via ACH. It's a one-off project (boulder engraving), and I highly doubt I'll ever do work for them again since it's going to be a fairly permanent sign.

I have no problem with a W9 and proof of insurance, but I'm reluctant as hell on handing over bank account information for these people.

Please tell me I'm not being an ass.

Your bank routing number and account number are on every check you write, and your clients account numbers are on every check you receive. ACH is my preferred payment method. No fees like credit cards, and funds usually within 24 hours, and I don't have to go to the bank like a cave man.

I get a lot of ACH payments from my larger clients and the local government. Don't be afraid...its totally legit and safe form of payment.

I wish everyone would pay be ACH. No credit card fees, no checks lost in the mail, no problems scanning a poorly written check for mobile deposit. The money is usually in the bank the day after the transaction is initiated. Like others have said, we have a separate account for ACH and wired funds. We transfer the money immediately to our regular account when the money hits.

Same here. I send everything I can ACH if they charge to use credit card. Receiving ACH is great.. especially for international payments. Sometimes my bank gets their panties in a wad cashing international checks... wires go right in.

If you have Quick books you can accept ACH payments. I always pay that way to one of my vendors to avoid fees for both of us. Just open another account up like Texas has.

I can't stand ACH! I think its extremely sketchy and I would much rather a check in hand. CC fees suck but I too don't want my banking info sitting in these large corporate clients system without knowing its secure.

Actually have a small one today. Guy called for a buncha signs a while ago and I told him our credit card machine is on the blink and he came in anyway with a debit card. He lived too far to go home for a check, so he's on his way back with cash from an ATM machine. I like me some cash deals. $850 smackeroos.
