Customer has a logo design they want to use for a marquee sign. I asked them if they could send it to me. Sure, no problem. So.. They take a picture of their business card and email it. Nope. That's not what I need. Do you have it in a vector format - AI, EPS, PDF - you can email me? Oh. Sure, I've got that. Great!

Guess what I got? Guess...

He opened the file in illustrator and took a picture of the monitor.

:banghead:

What do you even say to that???? How can you have illustrator and not even understand files don't work like that? (we won't even talk about the logo.....)

pretty easy to replicate...10 minutes...but I know what you mean.

It's not their fault, but they have to be willing to pay you to redraw it for them.

Oh I know it's super easy. I already recreated it. It took less time than going back and forth. I just can't understand how you can have illustrator, open the file in it, and then not understand that you can't "Send me your file" by taking a picture of your screen...

I just get my pencil, draw to size needed, perforate, ponce, start painting, done collect check ... low tech ways are best

Just had to say this, .......always hand paint

Quit buggin' me
I will disagree. Many high tech solutions are not better than knowing what you are doing and just doing it.
I would like to reply to this but it will take me some time to write it down on paper and the post office takes forever to get a letter from the island to the mainland....

We sometimes get a pic of a tatoo on an arm or other bodypart to reproduce but yes, we do get every couple of months a picture of a monitor from custom ink or some other online site what they want.

Easy to replicate, maybe. But what pantone colors are you going to use?

What will you say when he shows up and the colors are WAY OFF.

Not always that simple guys.

When did this become about how easy it was to replicate the artwork? I think it's hilarious that he had "exactly what you need" and didn't even save the jpeg in Illustrator as an EPS. Just opened it in Illustrator and snapped the pic. That's rich!

well when I get done I always ask them to verify colors. Most can't produce vector art but they can damn sure tell you some pms colors. And then I tell them we will get as close as possible and our pms may or may not match others 100%
