I have some aluminum post and panel sign we made I want to paint them with a satin paint then apply vinyl to them. Can anyone recommend a good paint and primer that will work and still allow the vinyl to adhere properly

Why satin paint? Gloss will give better adhesion. Sherwin-Williams Automotive makes some good DTM(direct to metal)paint.

My customer wants satin. I have looked at sherwin Williams the problem is there is no dealer close to me for automotive

Krylon and RustoLeum both have automotive/metal paints in any hardware store. Finish with a Krylon satin acrylic polyurethane clear coat. Comes in a spray can, can't go wrong.

I completely agree with RJM Signs, DPM is sold in all SW stores, SW does not offer automotive paints... anyhow hit with DPM after using scotchbrite

haven't seen it fail. granted, I just use em for pinch projects when our paint booth isn't an option. But for our bread&butter signage projects, our shop carries both Mathews and AkzoNobel paint systems.

We scuff and prime our alumibun with 2 part automotive epoxy and then coat with satin latex, all sprayed and yes it will accept vinyl and it will last

Not in Wisconsin. I've used Krylon on many projects with no failures for many years . The Krylon Fusion of plastic is also excellent.
Another solution is to go to an automotive such as Car Quest and have them make a custom spray can in any color and any finish. It cost around here $15 bucks.

well.... he's asking for paint recommendations, and also claiming lack of access to typically recommended options.
I'm no fool, I just have realistic responses. He should just go to someone local that sells paint, and ask them what they got. no brainer.

and I always recommend what works... which it DOES. get over yourself bro. show us examples of why it doesn't and i'll eat my keyboard.
