Supply Chain Issues

OK, we've had a few bumps with availability of materials, but nothing really bad till now. We use Matthews acrylic polyurethane as our standard background paint. We also paint all our letters with it. I got a project today that required three gallons of paint to mix a particular color. I contacted my supplier and learned they are out of stock on basically all colors and are getting calls from all over the country from sign companies looking for paint. If you call Matthews direct they will tell you they have no idea when they can ship to their sign supply distributers. I'd like to know what strategies if any other companies have
devised to deal with this issue. We're looking into automotive paint and am having the same issues. Thanks in advance for your responses

Not to be a downer, but I read about this quite a bit and it will get worse and fast, so adapting is going to be the skill we all need to acquire. The current global labour shortage, while difficult to explain, is hitting every sector. There are apparently 116 medications that are in short supply in the US right now, and most drugs are imported from China or Taiwan, and base chemicals for paints, vinyls, and just about everything are facing shortages.

The US military has had some leaked medical information come out recently , and 2021 had many spikes in medical mishaps that have there readiness severely affected too, so it is hitting every part of society. This is being investigated by Sen. Ron Johnson as we speak as some possible shenanigans with the DOD altering the information has come to light.

This is ALL B*llsh!t. There's nothing different today, than in the last 150 years. Just people have decided to play GOD with the world and it's working in every sector. It's political from every part of the world. This is the new fangled warfare we bargained for. While trying to keep our people safe from all kindsa attacks and not to lose high amounts of troops in war, they are now targeting economies at it's roots. They are trying to make the capitalistic way of living look bad. Bring it to it's knees. Remove the workforce by letting them stay home. Then, the boats out in the harbors to truckers taking over bridges. Supplies will come to a halt eventually and then we will take it out on each other and have kaos in the streets. Much the way it is, right here on s101. No one gets along anywhere anymore.

Gino I always thought the capitalistic way of living did a good enough job of making itself look bad. Maybe civilization was a mistake?
Which "they" are you trying to say is responsible for everything bad that's happening?

We got back ordered from our main paint supplier this week on a bunch of paint, something about not being able to get some resins that go in the base. We have been having issues getting certain epoxy primers for 2 years now but this was the first on this particular paint. We go through 30-40 gals of urethane paint a week which makes switching brands a bit tricky. Plus, it seems to be happening with everyone.

Sorry asum, but if you can't figure it out...... you must be part of the problem.

Don't beat around the bush. If you don't like capitalism or other standards this country has provided for yu over the years, then don't let the door hit ya on the way to another country. I'd say move to South America or India, but I don't think many there would like your point of view, either.

Maybe civilization was a mistake.......... are you just that thick ?? Between politics and people like you, no wonder there's road rage and other forms of mental instability.

I don't think it is capitalism that is at fault, though far from a perfect system it has been corrupted by the powerful. If you look at this RAND report they came to the conclusion that around $50 trillion dollars has been illegitimately siphoned off from the working class over the last few decades by the people that control the money. We have been all robbed of our labour, we should be living in a society, based on our hard work and actual figures, that retires us at about 50 and then we can continue to sell our expertise to the next generation to build on, and and then sail off to retirement full of fun and travel.

All of this is possible based on currently known technologies and sound monetary practices, not the fiat currencies currently manipulated by the global central banking system, including the non-governmental, privately owned US federal Reserve.

I always find it strange that people that don't like capitalism are actually involved in it in some capacity.

Or have it around in order to actually be able to pay for some of the "social" programs that they want.

I think what people find is a failing of capitalism is really cronyism that they don't like. Which happens in any type of system (some of it actually shows up worse in other systems compared to capitalism, how is that for irony).

My suggestion would have been to try an auto paint supplier but sounds like that's a dead end too.

We are moving away from capitalism towards socialism/communism which is far worse. The cronyism by the elite tyrants is part of the socialism/communism and always has and is only getting worse.

Shortages are part of socialism/communism failed system. One needs to look as history to see that.

When there is limited individual liberty and economic freedom people are not motivated to work or have been bought off by the socialism/communism system and can get by without working. Businesses are not going to expand if they are punished for it which is the socialism/communism way. Just who do the tyrants blame for the problems they create and then create a propaganda network to brainwash the idiots. However millions of Americans are too confused, too deep in denial, too brainwashed, or too stupid to see the obvious when it is right before them.

Well, let's be clear, that depends on where they are getting their history (if it's from just the public school system, I would say they are getting a very perverted sense of history as far as modern year public school system). I have seen plenty of places that laud Stalin for his accomplishments, but gloss over those very things (and more, or they tend to downplay what they do mention).

It amazes me, how people vilify a place for being ist and phobe and yet, if they were to really go to a country that was that way, do they honestly think that they would be able to so blatantly say as much?

People cannot get paint and it turns into a topic of Socialism vs Capitalism.
Everything was peachykeen and then there was germ warfare to deal with. Things will get back to normal eventually and you will be in the spray booth again.
The sky is not falling. And it was Vladimir Lenin who set things up in Russia to be a socialist country, Stalin was just a thug who took over after he died. So anyone who touts Stalin accomplishments got their education in a private school because their parents did not want them in with slower learners.

"It's not how you start, it's how you finish".

It was nothing about who started it. The example that I was thinking about was the Ukrainian Famine, which was truly a man made famine, under Stalin's time. And the motivation was very much under that ideology. Most socialists/communists (well, really Marxists in the end) are thugs at heart.

There are some tangential connections between supply chain issues and market theory differences mentioned here. Particularly when there is emerging data that shows the response that was done the previous 2 yrs was not the best response, but the powers that be still want to double down on them in some areas. I have a feeling that the "normal" that comes after this, will not be the same "normal" that was before.

Now, if one really wanted to go down the rabbit hole of at least what is going on here, I would be more afraid of us mirroring what happened with Colombia between 1948-1958.

Talking about freedoms...

Did anyone watch "Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom" on Netflix? (Documentary of the events of 2015)

With all the demonstrations going on these days, it's interesting to see how far the government and how far the people will take things.

It was awesome, if you have time to watch.

There are shortages of everything. We have some items that have been out of stock for 6 months that we have orders for. In December 2021 the entire inventory in the USA of black flexfit hats was 70 and we had all of them. Want a black t-shirt? Forget it, need twill? Nope. Softball jerseys? Nada. The yarn to make the material to make the garments are short on supply. And now the chip shortage is really bad with a bunch of spoiled (contaminated) parts at one of the manufacturers. Cell phones, hard drives and things like that are going to see back orders, shortages and price increases. Fortunately we just purchased a new computer, NAS with 2 SSD drives and 2 new cell phones before all of this went down.

I see this going on for at least the rest of 2022 and maybe longer as supply forecasting will be completely FUBAR for at least that long.
