so weren't you arguing against tariffs earlier in the year? and that tariffs would be a terrible thing for the economy? Now suddenly you realize we've had tariffs for longer than you've been alive..

we dont have 90 million cows. we actually have 94.2 million. But that being said, only 9 million are milking cows.
We also only have 28.7 million beef cows...or has william b travis called them, beeves. for food.

we've had to subsidize our cattle industry from other countries because we don't have enough cattle to feed us. Thats why trump has made arrangements with argentina for cattle.
until our cattle supply gets back up.

I'm not anti tarrif, I'm anti tarrif everything just because. Protecting certain industries makes sense - I've known about the softwood and dairy tarrifs for as long as I've been in school... Never had an issue with them, because they make sense.

Now saying it's a national emergency and the country has to pay 100% tarrifs... That's just ridiculous.

And you're right... Us has 9.4 million milking cows, Canada has under 1 million. So you guys have 10x more.


Canada's population is 41 million vs 340 million... America could destroy us in a heartbeat economy (well, not just economy, in any way imaginable) if they wanted to... Is it really hard to understand why we tarrif certain products, and that we don't want to allow a country that can flood our markets and make us reliant on them? All I hear is milk this, milk that.... Like 99% of products are non tarrifed under NAFTA, only products that are tarrifed are for the national interest.... USA used to be the same with aluminum and lumber, not some blanket tarrif.

There is also McGA (Make Canada Great AGAIN). Every country has a very good reason to be in the interest of their own country. Do first for the citizens of your own country before trying to go ultra-altruistic. I think altruism can be literally suicidal at a certain point.

I knew I got a sense that you were a Trump supporter. We are both for Tariffs. I'm not arguing with you ikarasu. I'm just saying that tariffs can be used for beneficial purposes. It's a good tool to have in the quiver of a country.

Just my two cents from europe: tariffs can be an important tool when used in moderation. Imposing tariffs on everything for political reasons is foolish, and ultimately it is the country's own citizens who suffer. Imaging making products more expensive which aren´t available from a local vendor.
