US Tariffs, Sigh!

No, it’s too costly and not convenient. In china they have tons of more stops - every single major location, and non major are within like a 5 min walk from a train. It costs like 50 cents to use it…. Over here it costs me more to skytrain than it does to drive my ev, and I don’t have to transfer to a bunch of busses.

I was in nanjing 2 weeks for the most part - went to Shozu for a few days and Beijing for a few days. And yes…. Their 1 city is almost the whole population of Canada, it’s a completely different world over there!

I also like how you pay for everything in we chat, Alisa’s, including ordering from restaurants - I know it’s so the government can track you… but it’s so convenient.

The wechat was nice but I was always confused at first if I scan or get scanned. I was surprised by the amount of western stores and brands there...much more than any other Asian country I've visited

I think every store can scan, but they prefer you scan them…. Unless it’s a small side store.

How’d you like the food? Every time I go I lose 10lbs… McDonald’s got a lot better than last time! But I pretty much lived off the bakeries, I’m a very picky eater.

I go back every few years, and every few years it’s a whole different country it seems. I was surprised by how many evs they have vs Canada/usa, I saw more ev plates than non ev plates.

And did I…. It cost like $2 to go 20 mins in a dodo (uber). We did an xl luxury disk to the airport, took 45 mins… $40. Ubered home from the airport in Canada, took 30 mins and it was $160.

I know the wages are different, but getting around in china was much more convenient than here… but that’s mainly exonomies of scale. They can afford to spend a 510 billion last year on transit improvements and still charge 50 cents to ride the train. It definitely feels like a whole other world!

The people are all super nice too. I got about a dozen people just walk up and take a selfie with me, a few people staring, but everyone we interacted with was friendly. The whole WeChat thing allowed me and my kid to venture out without the wife a lot and go shopping / buy food, everyone put up with our noobness trying to order stuff and we’re patient and helpful.

food was great, we don't eat meat which eliminates 90% of options but was easier to find vegetarian options VS korea or japan. other than no meat, we're not picky and will try anything. constant snacking from family mart.

yes, we saw nothing but electric cars and scooters. couple bucks for a dinner and a couple bucks for didi rides, we took the metro most of the time. it's no wonder we buy all our shit from there.

we watched youtube videos of traveler bloggers in china so we kinda knew that they want to take photos of us, which they did! the chinese LOVE taking photos and yes, we got looks on the street. but yea very friendly people but some will push you.

Asia is whole different world, we're going to try and explore SE asia later this year... Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia.

I took it for 4 years. For me it was ridiculously convenient and faster than driving so we sold a car.
I started taking the train when the Millenium line opened up. Cars were half full at the beginning and by 4 years in were packed like sardines.
You are right, lack of density and urban sprawl makes trains inconvenient the farther away you get.

US government will start returning 175 BILLION dollars to AMERICAN companies (not foreign countries) that paid these tariffs because they were illegally taken. These American companies charged AMERICANS higher prices on everything and now they are getting their money back but what do we get?

We get the 25 BILLION dollar interest bill for the time trump held onto their (our) money.
