XC540 Disconnecting from VersaWorks mid print.

Trying to print a 122x50in banner on my XC540, something I've done several times, but for some reason, the last two days, it starts and stops almost immediately, the carriage goes back, and the screen just says now processing, and VersaWorks says not connected. I changed the ip address several times, and it just does the same thing. Today I uninstalled VersaWorks and reinstalled it, changed the ip again, and I got it to print for 5 minutes before it did it again. I'm not sure what else to do. I don't have a firewall on, and I've shut down the router, printer, and computer several times to no avail, and I'm running VersaWorks 5.51.

With everything else you have tried it is could be a fault with either the network socket or chip. Try printing out some smaller jobs that take about 10 minutes and see if it stays connected for that amount of time. If it does the network should be ok and it is possible your banner job is using too much memory and VW is running out before it can send the job to the printer

tried smaller files and shorter jobs and its still reacting the same way

is there any setup required to do this, or would it automatically connect
With today’s PC, should just work.
How were you accessing your network to begin with? Via WiFi or Ethernet?
also you can set the PC to a static IP address within the same range of the printer, just change the last section to 5 or move from the printer IP address and make sure the Subnet mask is the same.
example, printer at 192.168.1.10 and PC to 192.168.1.15 and both subnet mask at 255.255.255.0
also, change the Ethernet cable.
now you have a direct connection with new good know Cable. If issues still arise, it is the PC or the Main Board of the printer.
To test, use a different PC with the direct connection. If it works it was the original PC which if desktop, you can add a new NIC.
If it fails, then it is the printer.

ethernet, both my computer and printer are connected to a switch thats connected to my router
So, do as I say in my last post and you will most likely find the issue.
This is just testing. You can always put your network back the way you had it.
If it works with the direct connection, then it is the port in the switch, switch or router.
Of course with all of this testing, do a main switch shutdown on the printer and a Shutdown on the PC, wait a few minutes, then printer on first, PC Completely booted up, then VW.
Again, it is either the PC, network related items or the printer.
OH, ALSO….since you are doing a long run, make sure the PC hard drive is set to “Never” sleep, it could be this simple.

Definitely worth checking that the printer IP address is set to static and not dynamic in your router settings. I think this produced a similar issue for us a few years ago as the IP address would change mid print

in search (magnifying glass next to start button) type "edit power plan" set to never
in search AGAIN type "device manager" open network adapters, then power management tab & uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Tried new wires and a different computer and it’s still stopping mid print. I’m trying to do the direct connection pc to printer now. Having trouble properly understanding exactly what to do. Can anyone maybe dumb it down for me lol

Ethernet from PC to printer.
you may need to set a static IP address on the PC in the same range as the printer, just change the last section a few off from the printer.
On the PC: control panel, network and sharing center, change adapter settings, right click on properties, right click on IPv4 setting and enter a IP address similar to the printer except the last sector, enter same subnet mask.
if printer still crashes, most likely the printer Main Board since you have ruled out PC, Ethernet cable and PC sleep settings, correct?
Check the VW printer settings to the printer IP address. DO NOT put in for the 3rd sector ”001”. Just put in ”1” on VW and PC.

network timeout. try restarting your entire network with a hard close and power off and light it back up

Sorry for the delay. Bad flu/cold going around right now. I think it may be the main board. Connected directly from laptop to printer. PC 010.164.112.150 and Printer 010.164.112.250. opened VW and it connected. Hit print and it stopped after about two minutes. Shut everything down and tried again and the same thing.

Also, double check your power and sleep settings on your PC and make sure they are set to never.
if so, then, yes, I believe you have a problem with the main board ethernet port. Unfortunately, the whole board has to be replaced in this instance and I’ve never been able to find anyone that can repair this. Don’t believe it if they tell you they can.
also, the board is not plug and play. All the parameters need to be taken off with the service level tool and then put back in. You should inquire with your Roland dealer.

Yeah! I once had a print router switch in my system and one of my printers (a Canon) would not work right. I finally dumped the switch for an extra long cable that I plugged directly into the printer i intended to use. The problem never came up again!
