I'm not sure what's causing this... Have had this printer almost a year and the last week or two has been hell figuring this out.
It seems the vinyl gets caught or something, when I do the "cut" function with this vinyl, the take-up reel can't even pull it down.
I appreciate the insights. I'm inclined to believe it's the static or friction issue, I'll definitely look into all the possibilities you said and look for some teflon strips. Thanks a bunch!!
I may have said in front when I meant behind the print head. Whichever side is toward me and the take-up reel - it doesn't seem to be a skew problem right now, though I will try to check if we're level!
It's like it gets stuck on the plastic edge leading town to the take-up reel. I'll see if I...
It may just be the vinyls I use.
I get headstrikes that seem caused by the rigidity of the vinyl when it's being rolled out by the rollers, or maybe my take-up reel is having some issues.
The vinyl, instead of being immediately pulled taut by the take-up reel, lifts up in front of the printhead...
Yeah, lowering the tension on the take up reel helped at least enough to be able to correct the displacement in rasterlink.
Also it seems like maybe Flexi allows for all 3 to be printed at once, but the clear ink density isn't adjustable and it's really tough to tell if it's printing like a 10%...
That's brutal. Oddly enough the print I've had so much trouble with only needs to get pulled back about 6inches. Maybe will try loosening up the take up reel tension.
This video describes the problem but doesn't have a fix.
I can print glossy and white in the same job, but I'm looking to do it all in one pass instead of pulling back after printing. If you try to do glossy clear, and white in a single pass, it will just print matte clear instead.
For some...
With white ink on bottom as well? I'm finding I still have to retract one or the other (white, or color) or else the clear layer refuses to be glossy. It will print matte unless I retract.
It's pretty fine when printing "simultaneously" but unfortunately, in order to print white and glossy clear in the same job, you need to first print the white underlayer, and then the top color and clear gloss in the "color -> special color".
Is there any way to make gloss work with the...
Thanks for the input y'all, guess I'll start looking for some nice non air release vinyl, idk where my obsession with trying only air release stems from lol
I have air release vinyl from signworld that weeds perfectly somehow, it's just really rigid and walks a bit in my printer, causing headstrikes and ghosting. The adhesive of this HP vinyl seems to reconnect with itself and yank everything off the page.
FWIW when I was having the issue with the...
What do you recommend? I've had trouble with avery, and now with HP in terms of the weeding. This stuff from signworld is awesome for weeding, but it's quite rigid, walks left and right and can cause ghosting and headstrikes even with my printhead all the way up. Also working on a mimaki.
I had this same problem with some Avery air release vinyl. On both, even if I step the cut pressure up a bit extra, the adhesive seems to hold the stickers in place.
The design is 0.5x0.5" there's 500 per page it would be bruuuuutal to have to hold down each sticker or go so slow/not weed at...

Here you go!
In most cases it's to have a sheet of weeded, contour/kiss cut stickers on individual pages. Easier to ship, easier for clients to hand a stack of pages to workers.
So from what I'm reading, seems like the summa is capable of contour cutting, then perf-cutting out the individual pages from the...
If it does things job by job, why is the take-up reel necessary? Could I let it kiss cut, perf cut, then let it run the next job while everything gets caught in the basket? And thank you for the info this visualization helped a lot. And we seem to do similar work. Are you pretty happy with the...
Do you know if I can run it back through the other way for perf cutting after I contour cut? Or at the very least, feed it back in, spin the roll back up by hand, and run it through again to perf cut? Wouldn't mind the bit of extra work if it meant having the printer free.
Use a spare piece of vinyl you keep wrapped around the take-up reel. I have about 1.5m~ of vinyl I just pull up from the take-up reel, tape down to my vinyl up top, and then feed it out a couple inches.
So you're only wasting like 8in of vinyl at the bottom each time instead of 1m+
