Dingtec makes good laminators. They are basic but good. It's all you really need, in my opinion. Calgraph... They are good technicians but you don't want them to be your phone support. I still say call around and see if other more reliable companies can beat SW's price.
  2. Fotoba

No? I suppose they aren't too common.
  3. Fotoba

Does anybody here have any experience with Fotoba cutters? I've been looking into them and would be interested in your thoughts.
  4. Totally newb: what s water, solvent, piezo ink

Yea, most of us aren't competing with sign companies in Vietnam, are we? Water based inks, also known as "aqueous inks", usually come in two types. There is pigmented and dye. Dye is used only for indoor and is not water or UV (sunlight) resistant. Pigment inks are used for outdoor signs and...
  5. Epson Stylus 7800 Pro printer

Take a look at Canon, too. They make some outstanding machines and are often times a bit lower priced. I, personally, like the W8400 especially if you are just starting out.

  9. Valuejet 1204 or 1604?

To be completely honest, I would avoid Fuji. I have had customers come back to me after using them and tell me horror stories. Then I had to fix Fuji's mistakes... I haven't heard good or bad on Piedmont but they seem like a credible company.

  12. Squeezing Blood From A Mutoh.

Pro Signs is right. Nobody can become a pro at color management without some learning time. My co-worker, Mike, went through years of classes and went to work at a giclee shop to become an ace at color management. Now, though, he can make perfect profiles in about 30 or 45 minutes.
  13. Valuejet 1204 or 1604?

The 48" is a great machine for banners and decals (with the Ultima) but if you're looking at a large emphasis on vehicle wraps I would recommend the 64".
  14. Valuejet

Wait until the end of the month to place the order. He'll lower what he's asking to get you to place the order and add to his numbers for this month. Always place your order on the last week day of the month and the sales person will almost always get you a few dollars off to put the order in...

I need a sign made. Bad. Design doesn't matter.

I'm in Houston and I've never had anything unlaminated last for more than a few weeks.
  17. Ebay think twice before buying LFP printers

It is absolutely vital that you put this guy under. If he screwed you like this he has probably screwed other people in the past and will probably screw other people again in the future. It is your duty as the victim to do what you can to ensure that other people are not victimized so don't even...
  18. Epson Stylus 7800 Pro printer

That's interesting; I had never considered that. Does having it at an angle increase the fading?
  19. Epson Stylus 7800 Pro printer

That's impressive. I forgot to mention that it does, of course, depend on where you are. I had a customer in Africa once ask me how long the prints would last for him. I obviously didn't give him the same answer that I gave the customer in Connecticut. Now, that said, I would not give the...
  20. Epson Stylus 7800 Pro printer

I wouldn't trust it to last for four years. Yes, the material may last for 4 years but the image won't. Also, most people who print with aqueous printers (Epson, Encad, Kodak, Canon, HP) use polypropylene instead of vinyl. It is far less expensive and will still get you the 6 months to 1 year...
