I would see if your RIP actually keeps track of this as part of production data. Ergosoft, Onyx, Caldera, and others may have this information for media and inks, at least.

Flexi is one of many possible technically appropriate options for printing, inclusive of Caldera, Onyx, Ergosoft, EFI, Colorgate, GMG, Wasatch- whatever RIP you want. The color swatches needed for traffic colors are just L*a*b* numbers that can be readily derived from the MUTCD specifications...

I'm confused about something with the ink configuration on this printer. On one hand, they have claimed the printer can achieve all the required MUTCD colors using CcMmYKGy inks, and then they mention a set of spot color inks as well. Just wondering what is really going on here.

I don't think you will be able to consider Ergosoft, Colorgate, Wasatch, or GMG in that price range, as your initial brand list was very extensive. You may be able to consider Qimage from www.ddisoftware.com or Mirage from www.dinax.com.

Pantone Color Manager software with an i1pro can measure a target color and report a close pantone match from any of the pantone palettes. xrite/pantone's Capsure device is also designed to measure a color and return closest pantone match.

It's sad that the permanence isn't better- many useful applications can't be done without better extended gamut ink permanence such as fine art, photographic, and more.

I was wondering if anyone has done any testing/experimentation to see if the poor permanence characteristics of the extended gamut inks of the Epson 80600 and Roland RF-640(8 color) can be improved by using liquid or film laminates with uv/hvls protectives? What results did you get?
