Thank you for further explaining Joe.
  3. Hello from Chicago....

I have actually been a member of Signs101 for a while, but recently took on some new activities beyond but related to my own printwork. My printwork is presently aqueous inkjet based, on normal substrates like films, paper, canvas, and cloth, as well as unusual substrates like Kodak Endura...
  4. Making Your Own ICC Profile

Use the GretagMacBeth eye-one option- that's the older reference for i1.
  5. Anyone have L*a*b* color numbers for MUTCD traffic colors?

Thank you for that information. I actually have seen the webpage you were kind enough to provide. Because that page is very clear that the pantone approximations are not meant for printing, this is why I asked what I did. The actual MUTCD specifications do mention two dimensional xY color...
  6. Anyone have L*a*b* color numbers for MUTCD traffic colors?

The standard colors for traffic signs in the MUTCD specification are given in a two dimensional xY number form. I am sure there is a way to convert this into L*a*b*(Lab), but I don't know it. Info would be gratefully appreciated.
  7. Question in-RIP spot color matching improvement vs GM Colorpicker/Colorlogic Colorant

I shuold clarify something- sorry for being confusing- when I referred to an iterative method, I was not speaking of the process in i1profiler. I was really discussing exactly what you mentioned regarding how you use Onyx Swatchbooks. Onyx and EFI use the same process, and I may have been...
  8. Question in-RIP spot color matching improvement vs GM Colorpicker/Colorlogic Colorant

I use the Ergosoft RIP's internal provided profiling software- ColorGPS.
  9. Question in-RIP spot color matching improvement vs GM Colorpicker/Colorlogic Colorant

I use the Ergosoft RIP. The reason I feel it is appropriate is because there have been enough examples of cases where I have seen both Colorpicker/Colorant take a 6-10 delta e 2000 difference down to 3 or less.
  10. Making Your Own ICC Profile

I'm curious- why did you decide to stop making your own media configurations and profiles?
  11. Making Your Own ICC Profile

If you want a reliable print process that faithfully reproduces color properly, you will do your own calibration/media configuration and profiling. The reduction of wasted test prints from 'tweaking it forever' will also be a good thing. With Versaworks you will need the i1profiler Publish...
  12. Finding a vinyl color match to Matthews Paint Code?

I heard back from Matthews paint- the person who created their swatch files is no longer working at the company, and they cannot tell me the appropriate color space profile for their swatch files.
  13. Question in-RIP spot color matching improvement vs GM Colorpicker/Colorlogic Colorant

I actually have done a trial with colorant, and it definitely does what I need in re spot color ink build improvement.
  14. Finding a vinyl color match to Matthews Paint Code?

Perhaps if you looked into printing the color on an outdoor traffic sign vinyl and using traffic sign outdoor laminate materials as a protective you could achieve the 7 year goal.
  15. Finding a vinyl color match to Matthews Paint Code?

Assuming that the RGB values in Matthews Adobe Swatch File are based on an SRGB color profile, the L*a*b* for that color is: 22.3633, 0.3282, -31.7286. You could use this in order to compare a vinyl you are considering with this. I have Matthews confirming that the basis of their RGB values...
  16. Question in-RIP spot color matching improvement vs GM Colorpicker/Colorlogic Colorant

I am trying to achieve the best possible reproduction of a spot color given an inkset, media, and icc profile. With respect to Colorant, my experience of the color editor feature is that it allows for the refinement of the ink build for a given spot color to achieve a better color match. My...
  17. Question in-RIP spot color matching improvement vs GM Colorpicker/Colorlogic Colorant

Many RIPs offer the possibility of trying to get a closer match to a desired spot color(i.e. Pantone) by using an iterative process and the operator's visual perception and/or spectro-based delta-e measurement. GretagMacBeth's Colorpicker and Colorlogic's Colorant can take one or more spot...

  19. Lost icon viewer for EPS file and more formats

There is a now unsupported but probably still usable program known as Ghostview available here: https://gsview.com/ You may also want to consider using GIMP, an open source image manipulation program
  20. Primer for canvas to make it printable with Eco Sol

I just found literature from Ashland, a major chemical manufacturer that makes inkjet receptive coatings suitable for solvent ink applications. I am not sure about their policy on small quantity/small business users. Attached please find a brochure. Pages 3 and 4 are what should interest you.
