  1. Roland SC540 Print problem

Judging from the test prints your heads are firing in the proper order (and quite nicely, to boot). I'm guessing this is a data problem rather than a mechanical one. Did you remove any of the ribbon cables? Was it printing properly before you reconnected a hose?
  2. Do I require a new K head?

I'd get another 5 years out of that head. And then I'd just swap it with the light magenta. LOL And yes, that report is in service mode. It'll ask which head you want to print it with and be sure and use something other than the black one.
  3. Performing Head Soak

I do it with the unit unplugged so it won't decide to clean itself and suck all the fluid out of the caps. Player's approach about using the head height to move them without initiating a clean is a good one, but if you're going to soak overnight it'll probably clean itself at some point ending...
  4. FJ 740 head problem... first clogged now... burned?

Are you sure there's ink in the system up to the head? Dampers full? Any time I pull an ink line I usually have to suck ink all the way back through and run a powerful clean or two. You say the last think you did was pull the dampers off, so I'd definitely start by pulling ink back through the...
  5. foggy print

Run a fill test in service mode and see if it's overspraying one of the colors or all of them. If you could post a closeup picture of that it'd help.
  6. LEJ-640 Fume Extractor/Air Filter

It's about as quiet as a C141 on take off. It is pretty effective at sucking up the fumes, but the noise is such that I only turn it on if I'm running lots of full color jobs. It's gotta get pretty stinky to warrant all the racket it makes. They give you plenty of tubing and you could score more...
  7. Roland 545EX Blown Power Board

I use a UPS on my 540 for the same reason. However, on my newer EX model the heater is integrated into the printer's PSU, so the power draw is so high that a UPS goes supercritical the second you turn the unit on. Bad call on Roland's part to integrate it rather than leave it on it's own...
  8. Roland SJ745EX ProII Platen temperature/heater will not throttle

Wow. Care to offer up some insight into how that works? Mine's been cooking material for a year or two now. I use heavy banner material so it's not a problem, but that platen can burn your hand a bit. If I can fix the thing with some soldering I'd be all over it. My dealer told me some...
  9. Proii v sj-745ex

I was told that upgrading to the larger dampers was not possible, but to be honest I don't have any faith in what Roland or my local rep tells me on these sorts of things. I know both of my printers have the short dampers, but it's only a problem on the 745; presumably the increased surface area...
  10. SC-540EX Excessive Cleaning Cycles during Printing

Don't know if it's in the regular menu or the service side but look for "periodic cleaning" and set the interval to whatever you want (or off if you prefer). You can also change whether it does a full clean or just a wipe.
  11. Proii v sj-745ex

No idea what it should cost, but if you're looking for intel on the unit itself I have tons. One thing I'd definitely recommend is asking about is whether it has the short or tall dampers. If it's the short dampers I'd have him run a 6x10 red or purple banner at the resolution/pass count you'd...
  12. SJ 1000 : Why is this happening?

I'd run the fill test for three reasons: A, it'll help tell you if the problem is hardware, software or firmware related. B, it'll tell you if the head's not firing at all, firing wimpy, or firing strong and fading out (which I've certainly seen happen for different reasons). C, most...
  13. SJ 1000 : Why is this happening?

How does your fill test look? That should tell you if it's incapable of printing cyan or just won't print it when you send a job.
  14. SC 545 dropping Magenta Ink while printing

Yup. Debris stuck to the sides of the head is a strong candidate. After enough usage you can get a build up all the way over to the sheet-cutter mechanism. However, as many times as I've had to deal with that (shop cat in the building) I've never seen it localized like that. There are always...
  15. Cyan and Magenta not Printing at all. (Nothing)

What does "no luck with the swap" mean? Did you confirm it was a data issue, or is it a mechanical problem?
  16. Media width not read correctly

IIRC, you can check that pot's voltage in service mode. If you do go turning it a little goes a very long way, so you'll need to have that available for reference. A little too high or low will give you pretty wild readings and I think you've got a narrow window. I have the same printer, and I...
  17. How long is your roland DX4 printhead life span?

I've got a magenta head over there showing 22.4 and still firing as good as it did new; not 1 deflection. Then I've got a cyan head that's completely trashed at 4.4. Go figure. With about 13 years between the two printers this is the first time I've had to buy a replacement head. What's...
  18. Help!!!

What type of file is it?
  19. Roland xc540 & 745ex questions

We have a SC-540 that we're quite happy with. We're looking to get a second unit, most likely a 745ex. A couple of quick questions: They now offer the advanced take-up system for the 745. This should be the same one as on the xc-540. Is this system better at tracking straight than the old...
