  1. Anyone actively pushing “green” materials?

We’re getting more and more image conscious clients asking about PVC free/eco friendly banner materials, vinyls and such. Just wondering if anyone’s had any success with pushing these products or if it’s ultimately going to end up a waste of time? fully aware that even on the PVC free vinyls...
  2. Taking the next step in printers...

The worst part about rasterlink is I actually liked 5 more than 6. They went so, so wrong with 6. It’s like the MS Paint of rip softwares.
  3. Taking the next step in printers...

Yep, about 50% of our artworks are customer supplied and we don’t run many low coverage jobs that I can pinpoint. It just doesn’t go through much ink compared to what we’re used to. Our old mimaki used to do about 2 litres a full coverage roll lol. What I can say is we don’t run many high...
  4. Taking the next step in printers...

As far as ink costs goes on our Colorado, we get about 200,000 square feet per 100 litres of ink if that’s any help. I’d convert to $ per square foot but probably no point as the ink costs etc may be different over there.
  5. Taking the next step in printers...

In the UK I could get a mimaki JFX200 for around about the price of a Colorado. Is it the same over there? Monthly payment might be the same either way.
  6. Taking the next step in printers...

You already have the R2R, unless these are near end of life and you think they need replaced I’d start with a flat bed. That’ll get you instant savings on vinyl, give you a few extra product offerings and save you tons of time applying the vinyl. If you do need a roll to roll upgrade, you...
  7. Taking the next step in printers...

Do you have a rough rolls per month for poster/vinyl/banner etc and how many sheets of Coro etc? A flatbed with a roll option may also be helpful. Plus that brings up your maximum print width usually. hard to tell what you need without knowing how fast you need your printers to be.
  8. Onyx Thrive 19 Slow

If in doubt, clear the work folder. Always speeds mines up. I do usually have a few gig worth of crap in there after a month or so.
  9. Taking the next step in printers...

As much as I’d recommend a Colorado to almost anyone, it doesn’t sound like it’d fit your needs if you needed a full wrap. The 1650 has more flexible inks bit I wouldn’t wrap with it. Depending on how many wraps you do, you could swap two of the mutohs out for one and keep the last mutoh for...
  10. Icc color profile needed

Are you looking at making your own profiles or do you just need one specific profile? What rip do you have? there’s a few options, some more reliable than others. One, download various online profiles that have a similar media profile to yours then test them all until you find one you like...
  11. Epson's UV flatbed is a fact: SC-V7000

“Up to 43 M2/h” sounds pretty slow to me. Even for an entry level - at a high quality mode you’ll get what 3-6 boards an hour?
  12. How Low Do You Let Your Inks Get?

For our Colorado I always keep approx 2 days worth of full printing - and we get inks in next day, the two days is just a precaution. The UV inks last about 1 year from the date we get them, but they usually don’t usually stick around long lol. how long to the HP inks last before expiring?
  13. Need Help Mimaki JV33-160 unused for a few years, what precautions to take before running again

Worth doing a nozzle check and taking it from there! Have you tried one?
  14. How Low Do You Let Your Inks Get?

I know pretty much every ink on the market generally has more than stated on the packet, so you can run them to “0” and they still have some left, for the specific reason of not letting air in the lines etc. I don’t have a HP but to me, leaving 1/8 of the ink in every cartridge seems a bit...
  15. Summa S2T160 pinch rollers install

They didn’t include any instructions- honestly the guys we got it through have been pretty useless. I asked for tech support the other week, they told me what I needed to do wasn’t possible and hasht ever been. Then I contacted onyx and got a patch for my issue - glad I double checked! Do...
  16. Summa S2T160 pinch rollers install

As per name, anyone got a manual etc for fitting additional pinch rollers on the summa S class? Looks relatively straightforward but I’d like to make sure it’s done right! Our techs are currently refusing to come out and do “unnecessary” jobs but won’t release any info on how to fit them...
  17. Has the "Customization-of-Everything" produced a fussier client?

So to answer the OP, I’d argue no. The availability of design templates etc online has arguably made a less fussy client (from my experience). All I need to do now is get rid of the white box around their logo on their business cards and they look at me as if I’m some sort of wizard. it’s...
  18. Has the "Customization-of-Everything" produced a fussier client?

exactly this, especially in the UK there’s a pretty big printers that has taken all the small format digital work. They offer design templates and naturally the customers can put their low res jpg logos all over their crappy design and get their cards in a couple days at “wholesale” prices...

Wait did you say you’d already done these and delivered them BEFORE you figured out the pricing?
