  1. Illuminated push through letters material

P.S. I made a sign with lettering using a translucent red acrylic (#104?) on the surface, over opal (translucent white). Glued down with Methylene Chloride etc. LED illumination behind. After about 20 months, the LEDs had bleached the colour out of the red acrylic, and it looked terrible -...
  2. Illuminated push through letters material

Sounds good, but ould you mind explaining this a bit more clearly, please? Thanks.
  3. At A Crossroad, To Keep Going or Call It A Day?

Go with your gut feeling: ie DON'T !
  4. Discussion What's the most common design mistake you see made in sign design?

It's in reference to the title topic, answering the question of listing several of what I consider to be common mistakes these days
  5. Discussion What's the most common design mistake you see made in sign design?

Their poor-looking business card was allegedly 'designed' (Imagine Vistaprnt templates) therefore they want you to do it exactly, on their car and billboard, with no understanding of why that's not going to work. Too much use of dreadful quirky modern wedding fonts. Too many fonts with zero...
  6. Enroute V carving issues with Gerber 408

We're using ER3.2 as well - no problems, but ours runs a retrofitted Tekcel, not a Gerber. All normal v-grooving works fine. I do have other odd problems like if i set a conic tool to follow centre line, rather than inside or outside a contour - it often refuses to go into the substrate. You can...
  7. Need Help laser cutting with mounting adhesive on back

I found when we had a 55w ULS, I could do 10mm acrylic at 1mm per second, max power, single pass - but so slow! Our 100w Chinese cuts up to 15mm ok. Putting the self-adhesive backing on will use up power though - the silicon paper sheet takes a bit to burn through - you can't get away with...
  8. Get a dashcam

Reading these horror stories, I'm wondering if that insurance argument attitude is the norm in USA - they want your money but also want to avoid paying when appropriate? With the few dings I've ever had, the insurance company paid up after asking for a description of what happened. The end. No...
  9. Need Help Mimaki CG-160FX and ONYX Cut Server

So, the answer to my question " Are you using Finecut and Corel Draw?", is No, is it? I use onyx also, but also use Finecut & Corel, and have no problems - with a CG130fxII
  10. Need Help Mimaki CG-160FX and ONYX Cut Server

Are you using Finecut and Corel Draw?
  11. Roland CAMM-1 PNC-1000

It works fine in XP-32 bit - with no extra software for cutting - just Print Preview, frm Corel, and as long as you have hairline outline selected, it'll plot - when all parameters are set correctly. However I have given up trying with any 64 bit system and Win 7 onwards, Virtual or not. XP-32...
  12. parts for MIMAKI130SRIII

Well I have the CG SRii, not the iii, but it will not work without the Mimaki Finecut CD and USB drivers on the CD. I don't know if the iii is the same or not, but you will need Mimaki's software.
  13. parts for MIMAKI130SRIII

    What happened?
  14. Mimaki CG100-SR2 Service Mode

I'd be guessing maybe there is gunk on the rollers, that makes them minutely oversized, hence X number of rotations, moves the vinyl a bit more than precalculated. Can you put masking tape through, stick-side down, and feed it or pull it back and forth, to sticky any gunk out of the grit rollers?
  15. Mimaki CG100-SR2 Service Mode

Can you put a fake figure in. I mean tell it it is out by 5 and 6 mm, instead of 2 and 3 mm, and see how it compensates for that?
  16. Need Help Help milling alupanel

W What ACM is it? Well, we call it Alupanel, from our supplier, Sign Sheet Distributors in Australia, or ACM from SAS, another supplier. None of it was 'cheap'. 3mm stuff with a reinforced polyethylene core, & ).2mm or 0.3mm skin each side, and sometimes 4mm stuff. Some cutters are no good...
  17. Need Help Help milling alupanel

Pardon if I say it, but I find it odd reading that anyone has a problem with routing ACM. We use standard 2-flute cheap chinese 1/8" upcut end mills, and have for the last 14 years. Our router is ancient, so we nurture it a bit, but 35mm/sec at full depth, single-pass, I can't recall having a...
  18. HP Latex 260 - printheads question

Well done - looks like it's fixed!
  19. HP Latex 260 - printheads question

head #1 with light cyan is kaput... Constant head cleaning of just C/LC may help. Remove the head & clean the contacts at the back of where the head sits (cotton & isopropyl alcohol wipe) or replace the head #1 with another head. Sometimes in the rip, you can apparently tell it to do...
  20. Costing Spreadsheet

Calculate your anual overheads, and depreciation, and divide that by 45 weeks and divide that by 4 productive days and divide that by 6 productive hours, to get a base cost of overhead per hour. Then add wages, time, profit, restocking, and double materials cost as a minimum.
