  2. Looking for real world experienced opinions of quality laminator

Use an Engine Hoist I recommend renting an engine hoist (10 or 20 bucks) to set up a laminator. Works a treat and saves your back ! Also, it becomes a one man job.
  3. How long does a sign last?!!!

Sign Lasts Too Long Sometimes a sign lasts too long. Other times, not long enough. I had a thoroughly disagreeable customer about 10 years ago when I got into the business. Lied about having a finished design, the price I quoted (not in writing)...delivered a dirty truck for a wrap and was...

  5. Need Advice on a Printer Purchase....

Have the Seller Demo the Machine Regarding buying a used machines, my advice would be the make sure the seller demos the machine for you. We've owned a couple of Rolands (SP300 and VS540) and have been very happy with them, but I'm sure other printers do a great job too. When we sold the...
  6. Silverdome International Design Competition

The Silverdome only cost a half million No judgement on the crowd sourcing here. But a bit of background: The Silverdome was purchased a few years ago for a $500,000 ! Last year, the company that owns the dome (not sure if it is the same that bought it for $500,000) sold the "stuff" that was...
  7. Massive air bubble under laminate!

Just a Thought My thought is that the laminate came apart from the vinyl because the ink wasn't fully dry. Nothing to do with outgassing or outgassing was just a contributing factor. Thought is based on experience - lessons learned (don't want to go into the sordid details). For example, you...
  8. New Website

Typo Typo: "Atlanic" on first page. Otherwise nice.
  9. sp300 media shifing / feeding crooked

Most likely the encoder strip. If I recall, you can clean it with a lintless cloth and rubbing alcohol. See the forum for more info. My memory could be fading on the use of rubbing alcohol. We traded in our SP300 a couple years ago (for a new Roland). It was a great machine.
  10. Sign Shop on CNBC's "The Profit"

The Profit It wasn’t so much that the sign man didn’t shine a good light on the industry. I didn’t see him as unethical. A little (maybe more than a little) unaware of issues facing his employees, customers, and family perhaps. What really bit him was his argument with a former customer. The...
  11. Second hand VP-300

Run Away ! If it has been sitting for six months, the heads are (best case) clogged or worst case wrecked ($3,500 or so). Also, it doesn't run. Also, it is a discontinued model. But if you want to tinker, maybe 100 bucks? Or get the owner to pay you to haul it away.
  12. "Big Head" material

On His Car On His Car: 3M or Avery cast material with cast overlaminate.
  13. Cannot import .ai file

New Trick You might try sending the file to another location on your computer, then try opening it. No idea why it works, but it has worked more than once with our Flexi 8.x.
  14. Polycarbonate Sign Face Installation

We are soon going to install a 20' X 3' sign face in a lightbox. Box previously had a formed sign and we may have to cut away part of a center upright (Looks to be two light boxes placed adjacent to one another.) Anyway, everyone on the shopping strip has a seamless sign of about 20' or so, so...

  18. Roland Versacamm Sp 300 printing problems Need help!!

One more tip about cleaning the encoder strip...It is easily reached by lifting up the clear cover and you can clean it by simply lifting the cover. However, you can clean it much better by removing the clear cover and the metal cover at the top of the machine. No need to remove the encoder...
  19. Roland Versacamm Sp 300 printing problems Need help!!

Had the same problem today. My suggestion: After you clean the encoder strip with Isopropyl 70% and a lint free cloth as described here, run an initialize limit procedure. The instructions are on YouTube. With luck, that will have you up and running.
  20. SP300 Head Strikes

Let me reply to my own reply (checking my condition to see what condition my condition is in)....Just turned off the heater, but kept the dryer on low (38C) and we finally got through a 4 foot run. It only took us 25 feet of material to get there !!!!
