With 3Ms window films, it is best to read their pdf on the product first. That said, we have always applied them wet using Rapid Tac and a hard squeegee with a felt wrapped edge. If material is masked, then keep the working side dry until you have pushed all the water out - then wet it before...
Greased Lightning is what we use to prep steel for painting. Best to follow with alcohol to make sure the detergent from the Greased Lightning is gone.
There used to be, and maybe still is, a 3951 that is neither Rapid Air not ProSlide - that might be the one you used years ago. We have used both 3751RA and 3951RA and can tell no difference between those. Neither is what we use to actually wrap a vehicle - for that we would use Arlon SLX plus...
We laminate most things if they are likely to be up for a few years, but we don't laminate Real Estate Signs or other temporary signs. For instance, we never laminate coroplast and almost never foam board or gatorboard signs.
We have a FluidColor flatbed printer. It gives the choice of leading...
We print on Aluminum and Composites all the time. A good prep is Solv S1000 surface cleaner prep. Another is Supply55 adhesion promoter. But some suppliers sell digital ready panels already prepped from the factory.
Arlon 3270 Gloss laminate would be a better choice. SLX+ is awesome vinyl.
Matte cleans up surprisingly well with Windex or Simple Green.
I have never put a ceramic coating on Matter laminate, but I see someone else recommends. Will have to try that.
... and they last 20 years or more... We keep one around because we still use a Gerber Edge, but otherwise we would not need a sprocket-feed plotter and would add another 30" Graphtec with pinch rollers. We currently have one ancient 30" and one newer 60" Graphtec plotter and they are awesome -...
1. Race car - we mostly use intermediate and don't laminate as they change them once per year. For car graphics otherwise we use cast and laminate with cast (gloss)
2. We do more in cast than calendared and we are split between gloss and matte lamination
3. We would use cast and gloss laminate...
I may have muddled one thing - The Roland can cut, but the Graphtec can handle small stuff much better and large stuff has fewer places where the cut did not close. The Graphtec with a new bland can cut tiny stuff.
We used to have a Roland Plotter and it was good - but not great. The XR640 is decent at plotting, though you need to adjust the offset per job if you want excellent cutting. The Graphtec is much better at plotting. We went and looked at a Summa and a Graphtec and ran them through their paces...
Summa is a good choice too. Our Roland XR640 has been bullet proof for years. We do set a clean cycle each morning and we don't turn it off - it sprays the jets every few hours to keep them free of clogs - might be why ours is trouble free.
Flexi Production Manager for the cut, Versa Works for print. The FC9000 has an electric eye that reads cropmarks (You use the Contour Cut Marks tool from the Effects Tool Bar, choose Graphtec 4 Points Type 1, and to cut you choose the Cut Contour symbol - which looks like the Cut symbol but with...
For plotters, Graphtec and Summa. We have a Roland Printer (XR640) and it is a solid piece of equipment, but as a plotter not in the same class with the Graphtec (FC9000). We print on the Roland and do must cuts on the Graphtec. We also have an old 30" Graphtec that replaced the Roland plotter...
My first thought was to wonder what is the resolution of the original files... Pixilation usually has more to do with the quality of the original files than the print settings. I would agree that the wrap in the pictures is poor resolution - but is that because a small file was stretched?
You...
Reds are notoriously hard to print (as are grays). That said, I see this model has various possible ink combinations - so if he is just using CMYK or CMYKLcLmLk his range of colors, especially Reds, will be limited. We run a Roland with CMYKLcLmLk inks and ran samples to find some vibrant reds...
We cut out the areas that fall on trim. Usually it does not adhere well and can easily tunnel and trap water. I think it gives a clean appearance with it trimmed. When trimming on the vehicle, it takes a little sensitivity to cut through the vinyl without cutting the vehicle's paint. Practice by...
