A headstrike can take out a bunch of your nozzles, basically smearing dryed ink into or over the nozzles. Probably didnt take out the pump, my guess is that there was some problem preexisting, it is just that these printers are pretty forgiving. subtank refill is usually a valve issue...

It should be the two you connected when you replaced the cap. Pretty small, used to be clear. I think the black tubing is much larger.

If you are not getting a seal it is probably the Alignment of the capping station. You can check it with a flashlight, though you might have to remove the wiper plate. You can also 'paint' the caps with ink, cap the carriage - MANUALLY lower the cap plate and move the head down to left side...

I normally just run a little charge to fill dampers.. There are two small drain lines on the cap, you can y connect to both or clamp one off and syringe from the other, if you are just trying to fill the new dampers.

I thought is was pretty straight forward. The hold down can be a pain to fish in and out. But with your experience on Falcons, should be easy.
