  1. new caddy designs for our company

I like the blue/silver color combination, but giant magnified bubbles might not be the perfect choice for a graphic film installer. I think a texture in correct scale would make a more neutral background, rather than a zoomed up image.
  2. Hand Routed Sign

The school signs were first routed around all the letters to a depth of about a half inch. Then the texturing of the background is done with a ball rasp in a die grinder. I used to blast all our cedar signs, but these school signs are gonna get climbed all over by nasty little children and the...
  3. Hand Routed Sign

That looks very nice. I do quite a bit of hand routing, mostly cedar. I just finished ten 9 foot by 22" cedar signs for our local school board. I cough cedar clouds now.
  4. How do I make this look less like clip art.

    Happy Habaneros
  5. More press about our shop

    Very nice article. Congratulations.
  6. Now, that's low..................................

When I was younger I did handlettering exclusively from the early seventies up until around the late eighties when I added computer cut vinyl to my trick-bag. I still swing a brush on occasion, but I'll never miss kneeling in the mud to paint vehicle weight numbers on greasy dump trucks. Nor...
  7. A lesson in logo design...

The "Simplexity" of this design is topnotch!
  8. Full page ad for Computerized Cutters, Inc. in Signs of the Times

I haven't read the ad/article either as my subscription to Signs of the Times ran out back in '83, but if they are putting down the skills and talents of the American workingman why would they then put "Made in USA" on there?
  9. Detailed articles on marketing your sign shop and managing the business side

I'll read 'em. But I've been a full time home-based one man show for over 35 years and I'm lookin' to retire in a few more. I'll be interested in knowing what I've been doing wrong all these years.
  10. Wrecker service truck lettering

Middle bottom would be my choice, but the up-slant on the script creates a space that seems awkward. Perhaps an other line or a little swash would fill it. Or the t could descend to give it support.
  11. 18" by 9" Car Door Magnets

Phototec, Thanks for the compliment. I don't have a fancy flatbed, just an old sp300 and a Ioline plotter. Some are cut vinyl and some are printed. I cut out the mags with xacto knives.
  12. 18" by 9" Car Door Magnets

We all must be comparing apples to animals here. I don't do all that many magnetic signs in an average month. Maybe two or three sets. I warn my clients about the downside of magnetic signs, like loosing them or just the fact they don't look like the business is serious enough to warrant...
  13. 18" by 9" Car Door Magnets

2ct - After you do add in the design time and the layout charge what is your average selling price?
  14. 18" by 9" Car Door Magnets

I don't know how to make magnetic signs for some of the prices quoted above. Gino's post makes the most sense to me. I guess if I took a piece of white mag and just handed it to the client and supplied them with a sharpie marker I could. Or if I only did black helvetica text, all caps, no...
  15. Sell up or start up?!

Do you or your wife have any background experience in typography and graphic design?
  16. what kind of sign vehicle do you guys drive?

It needs some roof racks. It's pretty good in the snow.
  17. New in Nanaimo, BC

Howdy from Pender Harbour. I can see Nanaimo from here.
  18. At least you didn't make this sign.

Every one of those designs deserved to be burned.
  19. Nothing like a clean shop!

Speedster, your shop looks great, but I think the guitar would look better on the green wall.
