The VersaCAMM VP-540 has been an excellent investment for me. I wish the cutter portion was faster but I have no other complaints about the product. I just wish I had more space for a separate printer and cutter for increased workflow speed.
If you have the space buy a separate printer and cutter. I own a VersaCamm printer/cutter and and Gerber Edge and Gerber Envision. When I went to wide-format I'd much rather have had a separate printer and cutter but I simply don't have enough space.

Every time there is mention of "4 color shiny card companies" you have to say something negative. Why can't you "let it go?"
Pulling the vinyl off shouldn't stretch the mesh any more than when you pull off your blockout tape, meaning not at all. Any adhesive caught in the mesh will come out just as easily as your emulsion would.

I don't know why everyone is busting your balls. Life is short, let it slide....if you stick around for a while and you'll see it's the same people that always bust balls.
You stated in your original post that where you work you were told $7-$8/sf is what you should charge. Go with that...
