I’ve also got a Spike by Ike measuring tool. I confirm what Jburton says. It’s usually within an inch or so. I like that it puts the measurements on the drawing so you can email it.
I just did a job with painted blue 3/4" thick PVC letters which were stud mounted. We used a one part ink from Sherwin Williams made specifically for plastic. Took a couple coats but everything turned out nice.
Anytime we HP Flatbed print on aluminum composite we run at Max DPI. Slow as molasses but works.
We also switched to Triangle inks which is a much cheaper ink at better color resolution. It also offers better scratch resistance than the HP inks
It's finally back up after a couple of hours. It hasn't been down as much since they switched to Amazon Web Services. Speed is much better than previously.
I always tell customers if there is aftermarket paint on the vehicle the wrap is not covered under warranty.
Also make sure they know you are not responsible when the wrap is removed there is a chance the paint will come up. I would get a grease marker and circle the problem area before...
We make a lot of 3" x 7" plaques out of 3mm aluminum composite. We flatbed print them on 4' x 8' sheets and then put them on the Multicam router to cut out. Takes about 45 minutes a sheet to cut out.
We have a Summa plotter bought new 10 years ago and have never had any major issues. When anything comes up a quick call to tech support and they helpful. I'm sure it costs more than other brands but it is well worth it.
We print and cut on Oracal 3641 everyday unlaminated without any issues. If you are using Oracal Rapid Air vinyl then it will curl if ink goes to the edges.
I've noticed with Oracal rapid air if the ink goes to the edges it will always curl up over time. For this reason I never use it anymore. Also calendered vinyls will always shrink on edges.
If these are going on vehicles you need to use a cast vinyl and laminate which will not shrink.
We just installed 30" tall 3/4" thick PVC letters on a building and ended up painting the letters blue. Went to Sherwin Williams and they found a product for it. Ended up taking 2 coats with no primer being used. Job turned out great.
We only use Net banners for over the street. Using regular vinyl even 18oz can come down even with high wind. We have never had a failure with Net banners. Check out Dixie Flag.
