So I usually do not use Flexi - I jump right to production manager, but with jobs that need cutting, I will open in flexi, click contour cut then "rip and print". When the preview window comes up, I have 10,000 tiles for my one image that needs printing and cutting - it can be any size from 1"...

I use the apple key and the tilde/apostrophe key (to the left of the number 1 key). Not sure of the windows equivalent.... works in CS, CS2 and CS3 for me.

Make sure that the software you are using is not sending along pressure and speed settings to the cutter. Adjust the pressure/speed on the cutter, not in the program.
