  1. insurance practices

Garage keeper's insurance is common, we carry $75,000 as we typically don't keep more expensive vehicles overnight and never more than one. Regarding dropping the coverage for owner doing wraps - makes no sense at all unless this is a workman's comp policy and they had you rated as office...
  2. PVC free adhesive films

  3. edges of material lifting on painted drywall

This seems to be a white dry-erase product? Never used that, but we use a good quality dry-erase laminate over 40c with good results as most of our projects are printed. Such as this...
  4. Decorative Hardware

    Nice idea - source?
  5. Desktop Flatbed UV Printer

Maybe you've figured a way to monetize that investment. I looked at the options several times and came to a different conclusion. Trying to make real money on promo product transactions is a whole different ballgame from signage. Order prep, hand holding the customer, slow production rates...
  6. Question How often do you rebuild your color profiles?

We re-linearize (calibrate) with each head change or when it's obvious a supplier changes manufacturing source (like 3M did last year with 35c now made in Brazil). I'll get pushback, but more important on the HP 3/5 series is regularly scheduled head changes around 4200 ml point or at the first...
  7. You need an E-mail provider checkup

We converted from a gmail business account to Office 365. Besides the locally hosted (which i prefer) Office apps, you get 1GB OneDrive for each account, excellent admin tools, Sharepoint if you need collaborative tools. This would get argument, but IMHO nobody does email/calendar integration...
  8. Excellent Folding Table For Shop

Yep, sort of like the vinyl path I went down last year. Ended up digitizing all my LPs when I figured out my old ears can't tell the difference except the extra snap/crackle/pop. Back to the topic, I can see where this would be good as a backup table in the shop. All our shelving in our small...
  9. advice for running small labels

Are you sure? HP says 360 can print 1200: http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2014/LFGraphics2014/Latex360.pdf
  10. advice for running small labels

The obvious is to run at 1200 dpi. Number of passes will have little impact. Also, is your native file contain vector or rasterized text?. Your RIP will rasterize a vector at the desired dpi (1200 in this case) but if you are starting with text that has already been rasterized at a lower...
  11. Anyone else disturbed..

Point taken, just that I view Signs 101 as a nice break from the noise we get constantly. Would rather get in heated argument argue about latex vs. solvent. Just my naive wish, but I guess General chit chat the appropriate place to post that opinion.
  12. Anyone else disturbed..

I love to talk politics, but wish we could reserve it to the politics that directly impacts the sign business (taxes, regulation, benefits and so forth), which this doesn't. I choose whether or not to participate, so understand if you want to spend time on Signs 101 discussing politics, that's...
  13. Excellent Folding Table For Shop

Hmm. Since Christmas, the kid in me has been scheming for a way to resurrect my childhood with a slot car track in for the living room. Maybe I can figure a way to wrap the underside as a canvas and sneak it by the wife...
  14. price increases

Maybe your prices are too low to begin with? I agree generally with your stance. We have a similar outlook, positioning ourselves at the top of the market and don't often leave anything on the table, so an arbitrary increase is not something we do lightly.
  15. Good Wall film

Our 'goto' films are GF Wallmark or Avery 2611 for short term, 3M 40C with laminate longer-term. I know - 40c not sold as a 'wall film' but works amazingly well with difficult to stick paints and I can stock one versatile film. Going to experiment with Avery 2125 EZ matte which is sold as a...
  16. Good Wall film

True that most adhesives 'harden' and get more difficult to remove over time. Wall film is our #1 product line and unless it is intended for 6 months or less life span, I'll usually lean toward something with higher initial tack even if it means some paint damage removing down the road...
  17. price increases

And on top of that, if you use Grimco online, a 3% increase on EVERYTHING as they've eliminated the online ordering discount.
  18. Cutter maintenance

My Summa S blew a capacitor on the board one year in under warranty. Had to ship the whole thing to Boston. Been rock solid with just the cutting strips replaced a couple of times in 9 years of continuous use. Rollers getting close to needing service but that's it besides occasional calibration.
  19. Looking for matte banner material with good adhesion for cut vinyl

You didn't answer the question 'why' which might be helpful. If updating a phone or date for example, which we do occasionally, virtually any permanent adhesive print/cut vinyl (we use briteline or 35c matte) works well on matte. Sometimes we'll just print a rectangular 'patch' with a...
  20. Busy December?

Compared to last December this week only week of year slower then last, which is why all the posts from Reveal1. Rest of year up 40% YTD. Love the robust economy.
