  1. Half the class is bummed out...

I'm glad to see a high school that is teaching art classes with more equipment than paint, pencils and paper. That is getting very rare. Way back when, my junior high had a fully functioning wood and metal shop, and my high school had 3 year programs for electronics, metal, wood, and art. You...
  2. Pantone #'s - you'd think it would make it easier

And they are using an uncalibrated monitor in sRGB, so life really gets interesting. Not to mention the difference between a CRT and LCD monitor. Most printers have a disclaimer that monitor colors do not match final output, and charge more for proof prints for color matching.
  3. Never doing that again.

Next time someone asks me for help, I'll just tell them to sign up here and let y'all beat 'em to death. :Big Laugh
  4. Never doing that again.

Not really worried about any customer impact they might have, I've dealt with that kind of stuff before. Customers seem to come back to me after they try a few other sources. And I'm not cheap.
  5. Never doing that again.

Long story follows. I print wholesale for a bunch of local small sign shops. One of the shops was sold and the new owners knew nothing about the sign business. They asked me to help them, and I did. I literally helped them learn how to use a squeegee to lay vinyl, how to cut vinyl, etc... I...

  7. What would you do?

Not for the same reason, but my whole city council is up for a recall election because of some dirty dealings. Sometimes you have to do something about how your local government is run.

  11. Signs365.com?

Coroplast, puppies, and rainbows. We should all just use that picture to respond to these kinds of threads. No words, just the picture. Make people learn how to use that search function when they try and figure out why they have 15 pictures of coroplast, puppies, and rainbows as responses.
  12. Signs365.com?

I can understand your train of thought that you think you should get exact dimensions, I really do, but cutting perfect 18x24 in coro is very hard to do, I can pull out pre-cut pieces of coro, and there is a variation in every one. Every single one. And those are coming from the factory with...
  13. creative suite subscription is here

Having to authenticate once every thirty days sounds reasonable enough, but I don't have my production computers online at all. And they never will be. I'm willing to jump through an extra hoop to download an update on a computer that is connected, then bring it over to the production machine...
  14. Gerber Announces Discontinuation of all Flatbed Printers

If you have the machine paid off within 5 years, then I guess everything is good. Right? ouch.
  15. Save your scrap

Yes, and Yes. Just go ahead and pee in the potted plant in the corner like everyone else, and you'll fit right in.
  16. Getting Better Images Out of Word Documents

Awesome tip for the docx files! Yes, there is a big difference as Gyspy Graphics noted, I'm pretty sure all programs in the Office suite output at 72 dpi by default
  17. What Are They Thinking????

I really want to make a small sign for the counter that says "P.O. Number does not mean Put Off Paying"! That really made my day. Thanks!

You might find a talented artist at a local school who needs some portfolio work along with some cash. Gotta be cheaper than the other route.
  19. Marlene, Birthday Girl

    Happy Birthday!
  20. Sudden, continual, unanswered Coroplast Quality Issues

Nothing to do with the current problems, but back in '06 I got sheets of coro that had been through Katrina. Yes, they had dried mud in the flutes. Supplier admitted they had been salvaged from New Orleans, then tried to tell me that no one else seemed to have a problem because they were laying...
