Been a month so I'm sure you already solved this problem but I recently did the same thing, but I'm running Omega 5 on Win 7. I've got a 25ft usb cable running from the end of the Gerber parallel to a powered usb at the end of the run between the cables and the computer. Works great.

The mirrored file for the stud holes is something we'd already thought of once I looked up the stud mounting process or maybe it was right in the video I watched. Either way seems like the quickest solution for hole patterns.
