  1. Tradeshow graphic displays - what media to use?

We know because it snaps in half now, and it didn't before. We also know because we are one of the largest purchasers of sheet PVC products in the northeast and have an extensive recycling program to go along with it. Part of the certification process we required our suppliers to go through...
  2. Tradeshow graphic displays - what media to use?

Ultraboard is similar to gator but is a bit cheaper. It has a polystyrene face. It's not as sturdy but is lighter. Just an FYI, they have stopped using lead in Sintra.
  3. Tradeshow graphic displays - what media to use?

That's correct. The main reason we use it is because most of the booths we print on it for are of the curved variety. Ultraboard is great, but like you said, scratches, bruises and picks up fingerprints easily. It's a fragile material given the price.
  4. Tradeshow graphic displays - what media to use?

We do these several times a day and use 1mil sintra/komatex. We'll precut the material and run it through our VUTEk butt up against each other to make one seamless panel once it's attached to the carpet wall.
  5. VuTek

The only way you'll get a QS series machine to actually run 400 sq. ft. an hour is on light smoothing @ 540 dpi. With brand new jets across the board, this isn't a bad option. As soon as you start putting wear and tear on those jets, you'll start getting nozzle deflection and start losing...
  6. The Gandi is back Pred8tor

If you are printing 18x24's all day, sure. Looks like a lot of room for failure there. My industry has far too many variables in terms of material to make the media master an option for us.
  7. newbie, flatbed maintenance question

Our experience with VUTEks is the same way. It seams like the more we run them and beat on them, the better they run. We run ours 7 days a week, sometimes 24 hours a day. We average 101K sq. ft. a month printed and out the door. Last year we did 800K sq. ft.
  8. The Gandi is back Pred8tor

It feeds a sheet in once it's placed against the fence and the print is initiated, but if you mean completely autonomous in sheet loading, then no. That's what the media master is for. The new GS3250lx has a continuous board option that I wish we had. I really wish we had sprung for that model.
  9. The Gandi is back Pred8tor

True, the speed of the GS plays a part in what you can do in between sheets. You'd need a helper to tape boards. Just telling you our experience on our QS and it works well. We will be dealing with your same situation next month when our brand new GS3200 gets set up.
  10. Anyone know about this?

Great workhorse. Getting up there in age though. Last I heard, HP isn't supporting them after this year. Any one of these you purchase from the wild will have some serious use on it.
  11. newbie, flatbed maintenance question

We only use VUTEk ink in our VUTEks due to our ESP contract. We provide spent male ink couplings and tubes to a couple of companies that will reuse them in third party ink containers. I can put you in touch with someone who seems to have mastered this process for his own printing department with...
  12. Best Flatbed?

Take it from someone who manages a printing department that uses hybrid flatbeds only, task your operators with printing and printing only. If you want to handle the successful volume to keep a business running with the quality you need, an operator needs to concentrate on printing. The more you...
  13. The Gandi is back Pred8tor

Not sure what kind of belt you have on your's, but double sided carpet tape works very well on our 4 year old QS. We tape down double sided Eco board on the second side. Lamps make it curl but the tape holds it down well.
  14. newbie, flatbed maintenance question

VUTEk experienced large amounts of coagulation in the field due to the solvent they were using. They found that when it collided with ink, it would form clumps and you can imagine what they do to jets, final filters and secondary ink tanks. Hence the new maintenance fluid chemistry as well as...
  15. Need a Mac...

I'm surprised you went with the iMac for prepress given it's glossy screen. It really saturates colors too much depending on viewing angle for my tastes.
  16. HP5500 Dye - Fuzzy Prints

We have been trying to print on HPs vivid color backlit film. Have the correct profiles loaded and have been trying two different machines on High Quality mode. During prints of solid color, we'll get 5-6" of perfect color then a couple of inches of fuzzy print then it returns to solid color...
  17. Major Merger...maybe

I think this will be bad. T-mobile is a great low cost choice, and with this merger that will dissappear. AT&T has laid of thousands over the years after mergers. Adding 5k jobs after a merger? Not likely. There is bound to be thousands of overlapping jobs that will be cut.
  18. Work Order Templates?

Great work order, Merritt. Has everything anyone could ever think of on it.
  19. Horrific Casualty of Hurricane Irene

22 people are dead, millions are without power and billions in damage has been caused. There is nothing overzealous about that.
  20. Vutek QS2000

Is it only during a jet test? About how fast is the carriage coming down when it's setting height? It should be relatively slow. This is for several reasons. A) If it came down too fast you could de-prime your jets. B) You don't want it coming down too fast on soft substrates as it will make an...
