It's probably the cut tool carriage trialing cables that is bad. If you keep trying to load media nd it gives you pinch roller errors and/or it measures 0.0, that's usually the case. That could be what caused the first problem in the first place as well.

Yeah it's been hit or miss. Most people aren't having issues but I definitely get more calls about ink cards not reading or heads and maintenance stations clogging more often on these models with the new ink. A lot of my customer have switched to Bordeaux with good results.

Is it doing this on all of the colors? If it's just 1 color, I would say the sensor is probably either broken or out of position. If it's every color, you might need to update your ink controller firmware. If your machine is an older model like the 1204, 1304, 1604 or 1614, it might just not be...

That looks like the media buckled to me. Anytime your media looks wavy on the platen, those areas will look like this. Usually you just need to lower the heat a bit to cut down on buckling but also make sure your vacuum is set to high.

It sounds like your maintenance station isn't sealing up with the head or the pump is clogged. If ink isn't moving during that mode, that would be the first place to look.

If your RIP allows you to, try lowering the motor speed and print unidirectional. That can help with fine details as well.

I agree with DL above. I would also add that these older JV33 models tend to need the ink lines and o-rings throughout the whole machine changed. Anytime I have random ink flow issues on a JV33 or CJV30 I change the dampers, then the damper connector and o-ring and if that doesn't do the trick...

Yeah it will be much easier if you take the whole black plastic piece off the top of the station. That way you can get to the spring from below.

That makes sense. Unfortunately that part only comes with a new station. That being said, if you can find someone with a used one, you can swap it over to yours fairly easily.
