  1. Well, I finally did it, and it's finally put together...

We run two Shopbots and this is my choice for a dust shoe http://www.kentcnc.net/nc/products/94-standard-dust-shoe.aspx, it's held in place by a couple of rare-earth magnets so it pops off easily for fast bit changes. Of course now that you have a cnc machine, half the fun is designing and...
  2. Versaworks, Coreldraw and multiple Rolands

Reloaded Versaworks, rebooted and now I can print from Corel.
  3. Birthday present for a 14 yo girl ?

My daughter just had her birthday. I held my nose and bought her a couple of tickets for the One Direction concert.
  4. Versaworks, Coreldraw and multiple Rolands

We've recently added a Roland Soljet Pro to our shop. We'd been running an SP540V, designing and sending jobs directly to Versaworks from Coreldraw as if sending to any other printer. Since we added the Soljet, whenever a job is sent to Versaworks from COREL, Versaworks by default adds the job...
  5. Cold vs Heat Assist vs Hot Laminators

Thanks to all that took the time to reply! I think you may have just saved me a few thousand dollars. :notworthy:
  6. Cold vs Heat Assist vs Hot Laminators

Looking to purchase a US Tech laminator. Pricing aside, what are the advantages or disadvantages between a cold laminator versus one with heat assist or a hot laminator? Assuming that the heat just gets rid of any silvering quicker, any other benefits? Thanks if you can advise. - Boyd
  7. What watch do you wear on your wrist

By the way...I turned that Rolex into a cnc table :-)
  8. What watch do you wear on your wrist

Sorry Fellas, wrote that in a bit of anger and fatigue. Currently at my shop for the past 23 hours pulling an all-nighter with at least four more to go. I vivdly recall my mom having to scrape by raising us three kids without much in the way of child support. I don't live a spartan life by any...
  9. What watch do you wear on your wrist

"I love Rolex watches they are a sign of Class." I have to respectfully disagree. When my dad passed away a few years ago, one of the things he left to me was a solid gold Rolex Oyster day/date perpetual with a sapphire crystal and a presidential strap. Those that know watches will tell you that...
  10. Roland SP-540 Encoder Strip Problem

Just went through exactly the same scenario with our SP540-v. Turned out to be a shot ribbon cable, the flat group of wires above the encoder strip. Had a tech replace it and now she's as good as new! Apparently it's a fairly common issue.
  11. Strange print cut problem SP540-V

Thanks Dave, I don't suspect the wire as this is the feed that gets progressively off. Will take another look at the rollers though. Cuts are not skewed or crooked, just too low towards the end of the job.
  12. Strange print cut problem SP540-V

Printing and cutting bumper stickers in batches of 12. First batch results were perfect. After the second batch the profile cut start fine (furthest from keypad) but get progressively off (low) as the cutter progresses. Did an environment match, performed a print/cut test and made a slight...
  13. Magic brand Postermax sticking

Wondering if this is a common issue... Have used several rolls of Postermax over the past year and have had problems with every one. The media will unroll nicely for the first third or first half of the roll, then it gets progressively stickier. In other words, it won't feed into the printer...
  14. sp540 cut/print waaay off

Thanks for the replies! We were in "blind panic" mode as we were stupidly busy and couldn't wait. Called in a tech from Proveer, he showed up thirty minutes after I phoned and had us back up and running in just over an hour.
  15. sp540 cut/print waaay off

Had a jam yesterday, Now when I do a print/cut, the cut is off alignment by almost two inches. Have tried the feed - scan adjustments, cleaned the encoder strip, resetting to default values, all to no avail. One other issue I'm finding is if I try to print a graphic and set it to center on the...
  16. Spelling and grammar

I'll apologize in advance, firstly because I'm Canadian and it's in my D.N.A. to do so, and I because don't mean to come off like a grammar nazi but just about every time I visit this forum I'm struck by the spelling and grammar mistakes made in posts. Your for you're, to for too and some just...
  17. Oh Canada!

    Welcome from Vancouver! :Canada 2:
  18. I have to Wonder....

James Burke has the right idea... To be absolutely correct, the term "font" is the name of the tin box containers that were used to hold letter ingots back in the day of the traditional typesetter...as in pulling every letter out of a font and dropping it onto a type tray. The term has been...
  19. CNC Router Regrets?

Feins are great, you can run 'em all day long! I recently installed vacuum systems on both my tables with the setup described on the Shopbot forum. I bouight mine from central vacuum http://www.centralvacuummotor.com/lighthouse.htm I run four motors on my large table and 2 on my 4x8 with...
  20. CNC Router Regrets?

I run two Shopbot Alphas and they've been great for our applications. I chose Shopbot for several reasons, not the least of which is that they have a very good user forum which was a big help when I was first starting out. At the time I bought them you could order just the components you needed...
