Purchase a decent rotary hammer from a major brand as mentioned by others here (we prefer Milwaukee but they all do the job). Get a larger one than you need, you’ll be glad you have it later on. If you go cordless get an extra large battery too.
As far as bits go, the Bosch and Milwaukee’s...
I have seen some strange things with IJ35C matte recently. Weird flows on the print surface like the coating drips as it’s being manufactured. I switched to Oracal and love it.
Try using Avery MPI 1105 profile. We run this profile for most materials with great results on our CJV.
Check local and state laws. You probably need an electrical sign contractors license. Installation of the actual letters is pretty straight forward. Screws/washers/anchors. Wiring is a different animal, if done wrong the place burns down. Best to hire an experienced installer to do that part...
Hacks walk all over the professionals who are dedicated to the industry. In my shop the saying is: “if you are not in this business, stay out of this business”. Too many “brokers” without a clue trying to make a buck in this industry with little design knowledge or experience.
If you want in on...
What about channel letters and and exterior building signs?
Almost have to make a good mock-up to find the right size and design for the building so you quote the right thing.
Anybody have a slick way of doing this?

Saturation is a big problem. Sometimes it’s best to invest some time in building your own profiles. The profiles you download from the website are hit and miss. Those profile downloads are built in the manufacturers ideal conditions and the temperature, lighting, and humidity play a huge role...
I do most of the repairs on my Roland. If I’m busy I call a tech in to do it. When it comes to circuit board issues I remove the board and send it out or just replace it.

If it’s a small print we’ll lay it out and run the heat gun over it a few passes and then laminate. Never had a problem.
Usually we let our prints out gas overnight on a loose roll if we can. Also, we run the the post heat on the printer pretty high temperature.
I had one incident a few years...
I have a Mimaki CJV150-160 with CMYK. Got it in January 2018. We’ve put it to the test and like it. Only complaint is the slow setup but Once it’s running it’s awesome.
Also have an old Roland SC545EX that runs well and pretty reliable. It’s old but I can’t seem to part with it.

This is great stuff! We are all much stronger together.
My shop is on the very edge of the sprawling Los Angeles County, a very saturated market. We have some of the most expensive real estate on earth and some of the worst poverty. The divide is huge but so close together. A very pretentious...
1. Calendared vinyl is fine if it is the good stuff. IJ40C or the Orajet equivalent, don’t touch the Arlon. Ink will fade after 4 years and look bad after 5 years. Also, the vinyl will be difficult to remove after 5 years. Best to change out ads and graphics every couple years, the ad does get...
Is Newcastle considered “craft” now? I used to pay around $6 for a 24oz mug of Newcastle at a local dive.
Profit margin on beer makes the sign affordable. $400 seems cheap a nice neon.
I do get Realtors in my shop constantly complaining about the price of yard signs with a $5 coffee in hand...
