SO had a customer wanting to cover up the previous tenant's sign... which happened to be waterjet cut granite letters inset into more granite, on an inset wall ~51" x 160". Customer didnt want to lose the granite, and wanted to show it as a "frame" around a sign hung onto the granite.

Best way, per request:
Mount 1" aluminum tube to wall. Drill one large hole on the side of the tube facing out to accommodate the Tapcon/washer, and drill tapcon sized hole on the rear facing wall and mount washer + tapcon. Completely hides the screw within the tube.

IF we could sell magnets all day at $90, we'd be retired.
There isn't a huge need for them, anymore, especially since all major manufacturers are switching to aluminum truck doors.
We still sell a set for $90, and people still pay it. We maybe average about 2 sets a week.
If it's a flat surface, I'd look into Dackor Laminates. They sell an adhesive backed laminate that is .012 thick and sturdy as hell. Comes in like 60 different textures.

hey, take it as a joke man... most curmudgeons i know are proud of the fact that they are curmudgeons. I'm willing to wager that somewhere in your life, you have a shirt or sign that says cranky old guy on it. You've earned it. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
