  1. VersaWorks 6... what happened to the overprint button?

I went to go print a backlit sign the other day, which we do like once a week, and the drag-down where you can choose how many times it will overprint is no longer there. I'm hitting PRINTER CONTROLS (wrench icon) hitting the button at the top to Use Custom Settings, and the only thing under...
  2. Printer can't find crop marks on micro perf

I have a bunch of large spot graphics going on windows. printed on micro perf with crop marks, laminated, but the printer (roland vg-2) doesn't recognize the crop marks. The perf I used has clear backing. I thought that was causing it, so i peeled up the corner and stuck some white vinyl under...
  3. Question Do old printers still have value?

A few questions about moving on from an older printer. Full Rant below: 1- what is the expected life span of a Roland printer/cutter, when used heavily, but taken care of? 2- Is there a market for old printers? In some ways they seem like vehicles. In a lot of ways the old ones were superior...
  4. Worth it to keep putting money into 14 yr old XC-540?

That's pretty much where we're at. Were you able to get any value for the soljet? Right now I'm not sure if we should spend whatever more to get it at least running and then post it for sale, or just try to sell it as is and be rid of it. I really believe a great but old machine like this holds...
  5. Worth it to keep putting money into 14 yr old XC-540?

Tempting, but not the path I'm on. This could be a great investment for someone who enjoys DIY tinkering, taking stuff apart and putting it back together, fixing stuff etc. That's not really me. I just work at the print shop, and my passions/side hustles aren't print related. Also this is a...
  6. Worth it to keep putting money into 14 yr old XC-540?

I'm the one man print dept. at a small but very busy sign/wrap/print shop. We have two of the newer True-Vis printers, and enough jobs to keep them both going all day, not to mention a crazy amount of time spent trouble shooting issues with these tricky machines. It doesn't leave a lot of room...
  7. gross thick banding lines on both(!?) printers?

I'll give that shot next time the banding appears. Thanks! I used to download profiles from roland for each media type I was using, but so many of the Arlon and Orafol ones produced really crappy colors. Talked to someone in application dept at Roland, and he suggested Generic 1 v2 profile. We...
  8. gross thick banding lines on both(!?) printers?

Some kind of tension related problem with the feed is one of the working theories. We've tried not using the the take up reel, and have still seen the issue, but I haven't tried it loose on the other side. I'll give that a shot today. Thanks!
  9. gross thick banding lines on both(!?) printers?

WOW. That's crazy. The profile I've been using is the Versaworks default, (Generic vinyl 1 v2). Is that what you mean by generic, or is that a standard roland profile? it doesn't have the word roland in it, like some that I've downloaded, but it did come with the program.
  10. gross thick banding lines on both(!?) printers?

Not really. Sometimes it's one big line, sometimes a series of bands that kind of taper off
  11. gross thick banding lines on both(!?) printers?

We've been having this issue on our Roland VG-540 for some time, and also with our new VG-2 pretty much right out the box. These big thick horizantal bands that will appear sometimes just once on a print, sometimes a few times, but always at a random spot. This issue comes and goes...
  12. Need Help What are these pink lines? (pics)

  13. Need Help What are these pink lines? (pics)

Our pretty new Roland VG-2 just started printing these little "halo's" along the outside edges of the prints. The feed calibration and media gap adjustment (bi-directional) are all calibrated. Nozzle tests are good. The user manual doesn't suggest much beyond those two adjustments. Any insights...

  15. Need Help Color Nightmare

Thank you Solventinkjet! downloading some arlon and orafol profiles now. As far as creating our own profiles, where do I begin? Is it better to invest in erqupment and do it ourselves, or hire someone to do it? If hiring out, I assume someone would need to come here to work on it? We're a few...
  16. Need Help Color Nightmare

Thanks, I'll look into building some profiles. In the meantime, I have a bunch of downloaded profiles from rolanddga site (1 specific for each media we use) are there other places to get canned profiles?
  17. Need Help Color Nightmare

We've been dealing with an issue with our Roland TrueVis VG-540 pretty much since we bought it. We can't get it to print a deep popping red. (pr42k). it always comes out an unattractive pinkish. Even when we print out the Roland Color Chart, it goes from dull copper to pink, with no firetruck...
  18. Need Help What are these nasty green lines? (pic included)

The lines are always horizontal. What's ink starvation? Is that a cap top issue?
  19. Need Help problem printing onto reverse micorperf.

I'm trying to print a window graphic onto some "reverse microperf", the stuff where the adhesive is exposed, and you print directly onto it, then stick to the inside of a window with the graphics being readable from the outside. It gets a little bit of the way into the print, then quits, giving...
