  1. Pondering the old sign “painter” days…

There is a guy near us that definitely bought imitation gold by the gallons. I seriously can't recall ever seeing a sign he painted that didn't have imitation gold on it. Most were heavy with it! I believe he was addicted! Now that he does printing / computer work he is addicted to distorts /...
  2. Pondering the old sign “painter” days…

One of my mentors shared stories of working in a multiple sign painter shop. When hand lettering one of many fleet vehicles he would leave a top or bottom leg of an E shorter than the rest or drop the cross stroke of an A down more than the others. So when he would see one of the vehicles...
  3. Logo Design and Providing Multiple Options

The design was the same, but we had a customer that couldn't decide between the two color options we gave them, so we did a two sided sign with different colors on each side.:Big Laugh
  4. Basic Guide to Reflective Vinyl

I'm pretty sure all white reflective will have that greyish look to it. It's the nature of the beast. We use 3M Scotchlite Reflective 5100 series. We have been very happy with it. We mostly use it on vehicles.
  5. Basic Guide to Reflective Vinyl

"So black reflective looks brownish when it reflects light after dark." This statement is dependent on the brand of black reflective. Avery on left...3M on right. Only one of the reason's we use 3M reflective exclusively.

  14. Hello...I am not a graphic artist

Here’s the story; A self-proclaimed graphic artist calls. She has been working with one of my long time customers to develop a new logo and mascot. We have a conversation about designing and lettering. She boasts about her vast experience, knowledge and attention to detail. She sends me...

"Was that an El Camino." "Yeah, that el camino is badass. You still got it?" No and No That was a 1979 Ford Rancharo GT...last year they made them for what it's worth. It always amazes me that when you post something here someone feels the need to attack you. I can only presume you hold a...

  17. Hello...I am not a graphic artist

Just venting from dealing with yet another "Graphic artist" that apparently has not learned much about real world designing. I won't bore anyone with the details...I know many others here deal with this as well. Unfortunately (unless they are learning things here) there are probably many on...

  19. Vinyl on a smoker?

Find out what they use for “The Patch” it seems to hold up on smokers. I read that a black panel (side of a trailer) can reach 195 degrees F? Take a chance...it's a 14x14 decal...if it doesn't work you won't need a heat gun to remove it.
  20. Be careful what you put your name on...

We letter a pretty fair amount of local semis; we put a small “Jeff’s” on most of them. One of the truckers told me he had a conversation with a scale house guy one day. Guy; “Man that Jeff guy must own a lot of trucks” Trucker; (confused) “What?” Guy (points at the ¼” tall Jeff’s on...
