The tired old mac vs pc topic is akin to arguing which religion is better .... you've got yours and I've got mine and there's likely not much either of us is going to say to convince the other to change their viewpoint.
In Illustrator you'd make one of them .... make a pattern brush of it .... then apply that brush to a circle. You might have to fool around a bit with the sizes and weights of the circle and the original shape but it is fairly easy to achieve what you're after.
I find node handling in Illustrator a lot easier with smart guides turned on ... that ... and doing a few exercises like the one at the bottom of this page.
I did one that was 12' long x 24". I routed a 3/4" deep slot in middle of the two ends to be joined and used a piece of MDO for a spline then used the foaming urethane "Gorlla Glue" for bonding the two pieces together. It's still fine after 8 years.
I discovered a web site using some of my copyrighted material and send them a polite letter advising them to remove my work. They emailed back more or less telling me to bugger off. I used that DMCA letter (and copies of my correspondence with the offender) that Jiarby linked to .... sent that...
