  1. Illustrator to SignCut on a Mac

If you're just cutting vinyl I think you should leave photoshop out of the mix and do all the vectors in Illustrator. That's it's specialty.
  2. Cutter not closing some letters and shapes

Don't know if this is what's happening to you but when I first got my Graphtec it was doing that on quite a few letter shapes. I discovered that the way it came was set up for pen plotting (the first number on the display was #2). Since I changed that to a #1 (for blade cutting) everything has...
  3. Hack for a pounce wheel CE5000-120?

I don't know about the Graphtec pounce attachment but when I bought my Summa plotter I asked about their pounce device. I was advised against it because of the excessive up/down working of the cut/pounce head. If I need a pounced pattern I pen plot the design on paper then use a hand held pounce...
  4. Which Cutting Software?

I have SignCut X2, FlexiStarter and CuttingMaster (a plugin for Graphtec). They're similar but of the three I prefer SignCut X2.
  5. Holy Crap - have you seen Aviary?

I had a look .... didn't create an account .... tried the vector tool with a simple couple of words .... figured out how to convert them to paths then exported the file as an eps file to my desktop and it opened fine in Illustrator. It doesn't do a tenth of what Illustrator or Corel can do from...
  6. Preparing MDO for Vinyl....

I fill any voids in the edges with exterior spackle - sand edges a little round - prime with exterior latex primer, the edges twice - paint with marine enamel. Never had one fail - some I've done are still looking, and holding up fine, after a dozen or more years
  7. Illustrator won't cut certain letters????

What program are you using to cut from Illy? I"m mostly using Signcut X2 to cut from Illy files and I know it won't cut open paths. Perhaps the outline nodes of the letters not cutting aren't joined somewhere.
  8. Restaurant Logo Assignment

    Just a sign so far
  9. Font assistance. Please and thank you...

might be classical garamond bold italic
  10. Thoughts on this layout

That's worth a lot more than 2 cents Mike, thanks. Building it up rather than blasting it down is a definite possibility. The owner of the new small mall wants "dimensional" signs and this new tenant suggested sandblasted. The letters alone will also be cut from some material and applied to...
  11. Thoughts on this layout

Wow ... a couple more very nice layouts from rjpjr posted while I was typing my last reply. More food for thought. Thanks for contributing.
  12. Thoughts on this layout

Gino I get what you're saying. In this case I have to make the sign a rectangle to fit a certain spot. On Saturday my wife and I drove to another city for an night away and on the drive there and back I was paying particular attention to lettering distortions, and any reasons for them, on all...
  13. Font ID Please

I've got MarkerFeltWide that looks to be the same.
  14. Thoughts on this layout

I love Mike Jackson's work also but so far I've never been able to interest a customer in that kind of style. Day Sign Co's first contribution is my favorite even if the compass for the O has been dropped (that was the client's first thought on what they'd like in their design). Luggnut, the...
  15. Thoughts on this layout

Well, I like that font .... but not for there. Something solid/classic/dependable looking is what I'm thinking for that part of the name. The compass behind the mountain is a possibility though it's moved from the forefront to the far background. I like the font you used on the first sports &...
  16. Thoughts on this layout

I like that a lot Day Sign. I'm digging all the excellent input. Thanks again for everyone's interest.
  17. Thoughts on this layout

I like that idea and I'm sure it would be satisfying to do and look excellent. I would like that part to overlap the letters so I' could build that part up from the wood surface....perhaps some easily carveable sign foam ... got lots of scraps of that around. I should mention that this...
  18. Thoughts on this layout

I was thinking of blasting around that shape then adding a cnc cut alupanel or sintra compass rose on top which would either be painted or have vinyl applied to it. The east/west points would lap over/lay on top of the letters either side.
  19. Thoughts on this layout

Thanks all. Stacy, I like what you've done there....but....I don't, as yet, have any A&S fonts (I am going to get some though). I was using Variat Display SSI and Eurostile (after trying just about every combination of fonts I have). Are Variat or Eurostile knockoffs of A&S fonts? I'll do some...
  20. Thoughts on this layout

This will likely become a sandblasted cedar sign. Critiques welcome.
