On the plus side, if you like the Encad, there LOTS of them for sale well under a $1000. I seen 60" 850's and 1000's for $200-$500. You could step up to 8 color printing for a couple hundred bucks.

Maybe move the print heads to the point where the band is and check the ribbon cable where its bending.

I had an Encad back in the late 90's (60" 600) and had the same problem, but about half as wide. For the life of me, I cant remember what it was. Cant be a real big deal, Im not real smart. Thinking.... Nope. But if something comes to mind, I will let you know.
