After posting, I went to digging through my suppliers websites....currently GF Conept 208 Static cling seems like a proper solution. Came in at half the cost of other static cling options i previously researched.

we get our taps from either Grainger or McMasterCarr. make sure you shop "bottom tap", as it has a flat-head that doesn't require you to punch-thru your hole or leave ~1/8-3/16" untapped bottom of the hole. Typical big box hardware stores will just have the standard taps, with the pointed tips...

yeah, the reflective material is diffusing/refracting the light to the sensor and confusing it.... i just apply a piece of tape over the registration marks and trace the marks on top with a black/blue solvent ink pen or fine tip sharpie. the bigger the piece of tape the better, as you'll need...

i stick to ~20sq.ft range, but will push it upwards to 4x8's in a pinch.... but anything greater than 20sqft I go with poly or flexface.
