  1. Smoother Vinyl Banner Material?

I'm not sure if this exists but I'm looking for smoother banner material than what I have. All the material I've tried has a pattern on it to where you can see the backing material/denier/fabric--which is fine, if that's just the way things are for all the banner material out there, but I...
  2. Has anybody ever bought a print head from somewhere like ali baba?

I bought an Epson DX4 (Roland SP-300V) from sign-in-china.com and it's been going strong for over three months with no issues. Make sure they are printheads specifically for the printer you are using (a DX4 for a Roland printer will be different than a DX4 for a Mutoh printer).
  3. Snipping Tool

General clipboard tip: if you hit Windows-V instead of Ctrl-V it will bring up "the ghost of clipboard past" where you can select previous clips to paste instead of just the last thing you copied/cut
  4. Roland VersaCamm sp300i - load media?

The workable media width is calculated by the machine when you clamp the rollers down. The cutting head will travel to both roller positions when you clamp the rollers down. If you put the rollers on the absolute edge of the media, you will get the maximum print/cut size, which on my SP-300V is...
  5. Question Modifying Juki sewing machine

I found this thread on leatherworker.net, but do you really want to go through the hassle? Your standard bobbin will go for thousands of stitches. You can just buy extra bobbins (20 for $13 on Jeff Bezos's website), load them all up with the bobbin winder and switch them out as you sew.
  6. Versaworks & Windows 10

    5.51 here, no issues
  7. Fiberglass ladder care

Print some graphics on some banner vinyl, cut squares out of the corners, sew them together and throw the result on the ladders. pic related. Grommets and bungee cords may prevent it from flying off the ladder and hitting vehicles behind you during high-speed travel. I make no promises
  8. Old Equipment

eBay and Craigslist are where I have bought most of my used equipment
  9. New start!

  11. advice to have my foot in the door to the printing business. equipment/supplies etc..

These are pigment inkjet printers. You can buy inkjet sticker paper, and it works okay, but if you want to sell durable, long-lasting, scratch-resistant waterproof stickers then you will want either an eco-solvent printer or a latex printer. Both of those kinds of printers use special ink and...
  12. Keeping CNC/Flatbed cutter parts and consumables organized

If you have access to a 3D Printer, Gridfinity is an open source 3D printed modular storage system that fits together and works very well for organizing small parts. You print out whatever sizes you need and throw the result in a drawer or set it on a table. You might like shadow tool boxes...
  13. PLEASE HELP Printing Holographic stickers on MIMAKI UCJV300-160

I have used Roland Prism Holographic foil on my Roland SP-300V and gotten great results. You have to use a higher cutting pressure than regular vinyl because you're piercing through a diffraction grating laminate and a metal foil. Other than that it prints just like regular vinyl. You might have...
  14. Dye Sublimation Heat Press

You can use sublimation-friendly spray adhesive or tacky sublimation paper (which has heat-activated glue that doesn't interfere with the dye) to prevent ghosting.
  15. Loss of a great artist

    ..........yeah.
  16. Roland VersaWorks 6 - adding a cutter

No kidding. I couldn't get VersaWorks 6 to work with my SP-300V. I had to obtain a copy of VersaWorks 5.5.1 to get up and running.
  17. Loss of a great artist

Al Jaffee was the best. His fold-ins made a big impression on me when I was a kid. I remember he did one that was designed to make you think it was one thing, then when you actually did the fold-in, it was something even funnier than what you thought it was going to be.
  18. Snipping Tool

This is what I do on Windows 10: -Shift-Windows-S to get the image capture crosshair, which also dims the screen -Draw a box around the area I want to capture to the clipboard -Windows-R, type in "mspaint" to run Paint (remember Paint? it's still a thing) -Ctrl-V to paste the image on the...
  19. Roland VersaWorks 6 - adding a cutter

If you are using a USB cutter, you will need to use a previous version of VersaWorks. I had to get a copy of VersaWorks 5.5.1 to run on my Roland SP-300V. As far as I know, VersaWorks 6 only connects to networked devices.
  20. How do you advertise / promote your business to get more business?

What's worked pretty well for me is being ready to show examples of my work to anyone at a moment's notice. I have a business card with a website and Instagram link that has samples of shirts, banners, stickers and sublimation items so people can see exactly what kinds of items I can produce. I...
