  1. Need Help/Advice

I would imagine that a printer that does all three would look like something in a Rube Goldberg cartoon. Imagine something like this, with a laminator bolted on the front. Now add in all the problems you're going to have trying to laminate (a continuous process) while the printer is still...
  2. VJ 1604 / VJ 1614 print head difference?

A means America, E means Europe, J for Japan, K for Korea, and C for China. Mutoh is very country-specific (with the exception of Europe).
  3. Looking at the Jetrix 3015.

Well, I was more specifically comparing apples to apples. CET's true flatbed offering is only 4x8, as is Flora's. I see that CET is now offering the X-Press 1000HL, but that's a belt drive hybrid... and it's using Spectra Polaris 512-15 heads, which range from 15 to 50 picoliter drops. Compared...
  4. Looking at the Jetrix 3015.

Don't forget that the 2030FRK has a Euro-sized flatbed (6x10), while the CET only does 4x8. For shops that run a lot of 5x10 materials, that is a must-have and a reason why my shop can't even consider a CET.
  5. Looking at the Jetrix 3015.

The rough price I got from Todd at Oldham was approximately 185k for a fully equipped 2030FRK including the roll to roll option, CMYK, white, varnish and primer heads. Output quality I'd describe as equal or superior to most products on the market today. The ink interestingly enough has almost...
  6. Wow! I think I found my Software?

The cutting features start to lose importance in the RIP the larger your shop gets. At my shop, we don't even use RIP cutting features for the simple reason that we run jobs to about 5 different printers, running 3 different RIPs. The Illustrator plug-ins that come with most decent cutters...
  7. I Received my Wit-Color Ultra 9000 dual dx5 printer

I think that was Mimaki's line of thinking as well when they introduced the JV5. I mean, who cares about quality when you can spit out banner at a thousand sq.ft/hour? However, the market situation here in the US is different than Asia. Mimaki found out the hard way that print shops here value...
  8. Mutoh 1304 Printing Blurry / Fuzzy

Looking at the image in the OP, I'm assuming that the printhead scan direction was horizontal? It looks like the image is blurred in the vertical direction, which might suggest an issue with dirt on the PF encoder dial.
  9. I Received my Wit-Color Ultra 9000 dual dx5 printer

Well of course they're going to re-use their own case designs. I'm specifically referring to the four-head DX5 setup, which (from what little I can see in the tiny pictures shown) is almost an identical ripoff of the JV5's head carriage. I also remember working on the Micolor SJ-1545, which had...
  10. I Received my Wit-Color Ultra 9000 dual dx5 printer

Oh look, they knocked off the JV5. I wonder if it'll have the same head alignment woes that the JV5 had in the beginning... paulbaguio: In the OP, he says that it's a dual-head DX5 machine. Aligning two DX5 heads together is difficult, but compared to aligning four, it's a cakewalk.
  11. I Received my Wit-Color Ultra 9000 dual dx5 printer

Well, if you already have the spectrophotometer and ICC profiling software, then instead of buying a $1500 Maintop ICC license, why not just get Wasatch for $3000? It's generally going to be much easier to run and get support for than Maintop, which is pretty much just a Chinese imitation of...
  12. I Received my Wit-Color Ultra 9000 dual dx5 printer

Wasatch supports the Ultra9000: http://wasatch.com/largeformatlist.html#w However, it doesn't include a profiling package. Do you have a spectrophotometer? The easiest way is to get an i1Basic i1Match bundle (not i1Basic 2) which includes basic CMYK profiling, if you can still get one. The...
  13. Got Print

Can't say I'm surprised then. They were expanding pretty madly the last time I was over there. I guess somebody's gotta compete with 4over and VistaPrint :D
  14. Got Print

Part of that might be due to the fact that 4over has print facilities in different states, not just California IIRC, while all of GotPrint's facilities are in California.
  15. Thinking about getting a DTG printer

I think we can pretty much blame Scott Fresner (US Screen) for the bad rap that DTG has taken. He took half-arsed modified Epson printers, put crappy ink in them, and sold the hell out of them. I'm surprised he even was able to sell the company to Hirsch.
  16. Thinking about getting a DTG printer

I've seen Kornit and Brother DTG printed shirts that hold up to washing fairly well. I imagine the ink plays a big role in the washability. As for the hundreds of Epson based DTG machines out there (looking at you, Anajet and Sawgrass)... I wouldn't touch one with a ten meter pole.
  17. 1624 roller marks HELP

Make sure that the mist fans are turned off. These are the fans on the sides of the head carriage designed to blow debris and ink mist away from the print head. If you're printing a lot, especially with the head in the high position, those fans will literally spray-paint the inside of the...
  18. Ok you Apple Sheep !

In all honesty, my favorite version of Windows was Windows 2000 (aka NT 5.0). It was simple, stable, and just worked. Windows XP tacked on to the Windows 2000 core a bunch of crap inherited from Windows Me, and then to add insult to injury they made the default theme look like something from...
  19. Mimaki JV-400 Latex

Hopefully they've learned their lessons this time. A lot of the "issues" with new machines like this is simply lack of experience -- operators will apply what they already know, and when you have an ink that reacts differently from most other inks on the market, it makes for a steep learning...
  20. Mimaki JV-400 Latex

It's not the first time Mimaki has done a headfirst dive into a market with untested equipment. There are plenty of early JV5 adopters who will attest to that. However, they do have perseverance. We recently got a JV5-320DS that works beautifully. But it took them until mid 2009 to resolve...
