It would work with gatorplast.... but overpriced and overkill for the purpose. cardboard easel would work fine, maybe two. You can either use a template to make one, or fashion your own out of cardboard, foamcore, coro, more gatorplast.... whatever you may have large scraps of.

I keep my extra duckets in a money market account. I'm not sure what the interest rate is at the moment, but when I opened it earlier this year is was pretty high.

I only know about 3M's classes. But there are lot's of good youtube videos out there (and of course some bad ones).... have them spend a day (or two) watching a lot of different ones. Be sure to get a good variety of different "experts" for a well rounded approach. don't just stick to one...
