  1. CMYK switching to RVW in X7

First time for me to experience this strange problem. I have applied various percentages of CMYK black from the CMYK color palette to some lettering & contours, and then when I click on them later it shows (in the bottom/right corner of the screen) to be a RVW color. No matter how many times I...
  2. I thought this was going to be an easy one

Yes, anything's possible. I did try straightening it and then using FMF, and I think I also increased the slant, but no luck. (My B&W sample here is rougher than the sample supplied).
  3. I thought this was going to be an easy one

The sample I was given had several repeated letters, and they all were identical, suggesting an actual font. I used FMF on my collection, as well as WFI and WTF. It's a strange one. Thanks for trying.
  4. I thought this was going to be an easy one

Thanks for the time spent so far, but it is certainly not one of those two.
  5. I thought this was going to be an easy one

Sorry for the poor quality of the sample. Any ideas?
  6. Do I require a new K head?

Tech said this: "If it was a damper it would fade out. A good test would be a block of each color to see if anything drops out".
  7. Do I require a new K head?

Hmm, ok, thanks for that; I'll run that by my tech and see what he says. When we replaced the head 9 months ago, he advised just leaving the existing damper in. It is nearly 5 years old, but not heavy use.
  8. Do I require a new K head?

Interesting hypothesis. How would one test for that? If I apply, say, RVW-BK20A (95% black), it will pump out a bunch of black to achieve that, but still with the fine lines.
  9. Do I require a new K head?

As you wish (although we're limited to 800 px wide here). I also just daubed the K head with a wet sponge cleaning tool; no change.
  10. Do I require a new K head?

Yes, one wiper for each head. The machine actually turns on all by itself every ~8 hours and does a little clean. I never let the machine sit for more than 3 days without doing an actual print of C, M, Y, and K blocks to keep the heads happy. With my particular Roland (SP-540i) it's been...
  11. Do I require a new K head?

I’ve double-checked the Feed Correction and Bidirection test prints, and they’re all perfect. I thought that the head might like to have some ink pushed through it, so I printed a 14” x 16” rectangle of just RVW-BK21A (which is K only), and that didn’t help. I wonder if I should gently place a...
  12. Do I require a new K head?

    Yup, bang-on.
  13. Do I require a new K head?

    Just for interests sake:
  14. Do I require a new K head?

The feed calibration is bang-on, so would you suggest that noodling with it until it solves the problem be a good idea?
  15. Do I require a new K head?

Yes, but I wouldn't say that it's "dead", just not quite 100%.
  16. Do I require a new K head?

Thanks. Yes, given the higher carbon content of the black ink, that would be the likely issue, but it's odd that all the test prints are good & clean. One would think that if the culprit was indeed the nozzle performance, then one would see some deflections in the test print. I’ve just now...
  17. Do I require a new K head?

Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned, the alignment test print is all bang-on, thus my confusion. OK, but if I've gone through the ones shown in the manual, what am I missing? It did print the RVW-BK grays properly after the recent head change, but now it's not. Nothing has been bumped; no...
  18. Do I require a new K head?

Does anyone know what sort of warranty one has with a recently installed Roland head?
  19. Do I require a new K head?

I should add, it prints a CMYK and RGB gray perfectly (although we all know that these are not neutral grays, and have green or pink casts to them). it's only on the more-neutral RVW-BK blacks/grays that the "banding" (for lack of a better term) occurs.
  20. Do I require a new K head?

I'd have to look at the invoice (tomorrow), but I think it was replaced.
